Ordered Airsense 10 for her, received Airsense 10
Ordered Airsense 10 for her, received Airsense 10
56 y/o male, brand new to CPAP. I ordered the Airsense 10 For Her, they sent me Airsense 10. I read some time ago the For Her version was preferred even for men with it's additional algorithm, hence my purchase. Is this the consensus or is the regular version just as good for men? Any benefit for men with For HER? So, exchange this unit or just keep it? TIA.

Assuming you received the AirSense 10 AutoSet and not the Elite or CPAP models. There is no regular AirSense 10.
The For Her model the preferred because it has an extra mode that the AutoSet doesn't have. This mode is designed and targeted for females, and isn't widely used by women or men. I don't think it's a big loss without it.

If you require pressures above 12 cm, then you wouldn't want to use the For Her mode.
From the clinical manual:
From the clinical manual:
AutoSet for Her mode is based on key aspects of ResMed’s AutoSet algorithm and delivers therapeutic responses tailored to the characteristics of female OSA patients. The AutoSet for Her is similar to ResMed’s AutoSet algorithm with the following modifications:
• Reduced rate of pressure increments designed to help prevent arousals.
• Slower pressure decays.
• Treats apnoeas up to 12 cm H2O (12 hPa) and continues to respond to flow limitation and snore up to 20 cm H2O (20 hPa).
• Minimum pressure (Min. Pressure) that adjusts according to the frequency of apnoeas: If two apnoeas occur within a minute, the pressure reached in response to the second apnoea will become the new minimum treatment pressure until the next treatment session.

That doesn't mean it won't go above 12cm. It won't go above 12 in response to OAs, it still can respond to FLs and Snores up to 20cm.GrumpyHere wrote: ↑Sun Oct 24, 2021 7:59 amIf you require pressures above 12 cm, then you wouldn't want to use the For Her mode.

Yes, it is the Airsense 10 Autoset.Dog Slobber wrote: ↑Sun Oct 24, 2021 7:48 amAssuming you received the AirSense 10 AutoSet and not the Elite or CPAP models. There is no regular AirSense 10.

They sell for the same price as the black model. You can check all the on line vendors.

Re: Ordered Airsense 10 for her, received Airsense 10
I have tried the “For Her” algorithm because my expiratory Palatal Prolapse tends to be needlessly “chased” by regular Auto algorithms, and it gets worse at higher pressures (and Central’s start appearing too). I like that my new experimental range (which goes up to 13cm) cuts off at 12cm unless I’m still experiencing Flow Limitations. Also the “For Her” algorithm sets a new minimum for the night if it has needed to use higher-than-minimum pressures to fight obstructive Apneas. So for instance if I have it set 10-13cm, and the machine goes to 11cm to address Obstructive Apneas, then it doesn’t sink back down to 10cm later (it has the new floor of 11cm for that night).
The machine still goes above 12cm, using it’s sensitive Flow Limit detection. It seems to elevate the Flow Limit chart markings too - more and higher on the OSCAR graph, due to that increased sensitivity.
Personally, I think I’m getting better AHI from the “Soft” response in the regular Autoset mode. But I’ve got this Palatal Prolapse thing that’s new for me so I’m not doing well on CPAP anymore, no matter what. My recalled Philips Respironics System One in “Auto Trial” mode seems to be better with Palatal Prolapse, but I don’t have many more nights of that mode left so I’m mostly using the ResMed replacement.
You got a great machine. It might be worth it to ask them why you didn’t get the “For Her” as requested, if you like playing with different modes. Completely up to you.
