DEEP/REM sleep pattern with cpap

Post by cberistain » Sat Oct 16, 2021 2:18 pm

I use a fitbit and get a nightly analysis of my sleep pattern ... awake, rem, light, & deep.
normally rem and deep are about the same .. about 1:15 for rem and 1:00 for deep
I've been using cpap for 2weeks - and my deep sleep is drastically reduced.
one day last week it was just 15 minutes. last night it was 30 minutes.
rem sleep has increased by what was lost in deep sleep.
is this normal? any insight?
thanks

With no information to go on, it's hard to fathom anything. What model of which machine do you use? What type of mask? Do you know your pressure settings of your machine?

What were you diagnosed as having (# of events, etc)? Take meds for anything? How did you determine what you wrote about REM and deep sleep?

Download Oscar (see Stickies) and post results for a couple of nights here so experts can see what's going on and advise you. Please stay in this thread.

airsense 11 with phillips pillow nasal mask.
fitbit records my sleep pattern every night so I have a lot of data showing the rem/deep sleep.
I get between .01 and .03 events per hour.
no meds before or after cpap.
oscar not released for airsense 11 yet ... I'm anxiously waiting.

Oscar, not Fitbit - one's a relative gimmick compared to the other that's the best available. And Airsense 11 what?

If you want good answers, we need good info.

Fitbit does a decent enough job of tracking sleep, heart rate, steps, etc. However it is not a medical quality device. For more information on smart watch and tracker accuracy, go to YouTube for “The Quantified Scientist” reviews. https://youtu.be/sPiYdJVjx-g

I sometimes use my Dreem device, which has an EEG capacity, and when I got a Fitbit, I compared the results the two devices produced. The Fitbit output deviated from the Dreem output a lot, and given the superior data collection the Dreem can do, I trust it over the Fitbit. So, don't assume the Fitbit is telling you anything about your sleep that will be useful.

You can learn a lot by using the Oscar software, but it won't tell you about your sleep stages.

Using CPAP can do a couple of things: disrupt sleep cycles as you get used to the new experience, and initiate a period of catching up on sleep deficits. After a couple of months, you'll have a much better sense of how things are going, primarily from the way you feel during the day.
Oscar software is available at https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

OSCAR 1.3 is still Beta and a person can't just go download the Beta version. It's not public yet.
You have to be selected as part of the Beta team to get the download and then you will be directed to the download but not long ago Beta testing was pretty much closed to new testers.

Public release of 1.3 isn't too far in the future

Thank you for your interest in helping with beta testing OSCAR. Please see https://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.p ... _Beta_Test for information about beta testing and the skills we are looking for in beta testers.

We are not actively soliciting more beta testers at this time, as we are on our second beta and, hopefully, getting closer to release. OSCAR will advise you when a new release is available.

And, yes, two different profiles is what you will need to support two people with different CPAP machines.

The Beta is not public, and the OSCAR team is requesting the download link not be published.

Currently, the last version is the release candidate. Today is the due date for Release Candidate problem reports. I'm interpreting that as an imminent release, but that is speculation on my part.
