Does AHI reflect treated or untreated?

Post by periksson » Wed Oct 06, 2021 8:28 am

Hi everyone,

Once again thanks for a great forum. I tried to search for an answer to this first, but the search engine required four letters ;-)

My question is, if I have an AHI of 4 after a nights sleep, does that mean the machine tried to eliminate those (on average) 4 apneas but failed? Or they were identified and treated successfully?

AirSense 10 :-)

Thanks a lot for your help,

Per Eriksson

You had 4 events per hour while using the CPAP. The machine can't eliminate all events. Should reflect a large reduction from your sleep study done without a CPAP.

You are being treated as I imagine your test results were a lot higher or you wouldn't have been referred to Cpap.

AHI numbers seen on machine or reports are the events that were NOT prevented from happening.
There is no way to know how many were prevented.
