How to introduce my sleep specialist to Oscar?

Post by kbh209 » Wed Jul 14, 2021 11:37 pm

In the past couple of visits I've briefly asked if my sleep specialist had heard of either SleepyHead or Oscar, and he recalled he might have heard the name. My next appointment with him is in December of this year and I wanted to share more about Oscar with him. My question is, how do I do it? Any tips from people who have started sharing their Oscar results with their sleep physicians? Did you start with the Oscar wiki or with just screen shots of your sleep results?

I wouldn't waste my time. What do you think you will accomplish? I briefly tried with my first Sleep Dr. and he was uninterested. Unless you have some unusual and unique problem you can't solve I really don't see the point.

I agree. Why would you want to? If the doctor presses you.... then share it.

All your doctor is concerned with is usage and AHI. He doesn't have time to review all that other stuff. I only look at my Oscar report monthly. I just glance at my AHI on my screen when I get up. To me...Oscar is only useful if you are having problems....I can tell when I wake up whether I had a good night or not...I don't need Oscar to tell me that.

Do you have a problem you'd like to raise with the sleep specialist, and is it one where the Oscar data are pertinent?

Years ago, I brought several pages of Sleepyhead data to my sleep doc.
He totally geeked out, and my 15 minute appointment turned into over a half hour.
Since then, his PA gets the "official" data, and me, for my mandatory yearly Medicare visit.
Apparently, he feels that I am pretty much an independent patient.

No problems, just was curious what peoples' opinions where and if they've shared Oscar data with their sleep specialists.
Thank you everybody for your thoughts I appreciate it. I'll save a couple of screen shots here and there so when I do see the sleep specialist in December, he can see what it's officially about. :D

He may or may not be interested. Doctors are funny about stuff like that.
The docs that applaud patients being active...more likely to maybe show some interest but the ones who aren't keen on patients doing or thinking anything for themselves won't want to be bothered.

Most of the time the doctors aren't looking at night by night details anyway. If they look at all it is going to be for trends and patterns and HOW YOU FEEL. My doc was more concerned about that than anything else.
