Can I change what cell provider is managing my data?

Post by CrimeCruncher » Thu Jun 24, 2021 9:42 am

Hi, I am using a new Resmed Airsense 10. I live in an area of Montana where only Verizon towers are useable. My new machine is only getting one "bar" of service according to my machine, and it does not appear to be sending data to enable seeing my sleep results on the "MyAir" program.

Thanks!

If your doctor needs a better signal to check compliance,
he/she may ask you to bring in the sd card at your next appointment.
If your Airsense 10 is an Autoset, you can see more on the screen than on MyAir.
Set "essentials" to plus, and view the sleep report on your screen.
MyAir is considered a joke by some of us.

your cpap dials out and uses the first or closest cell tower it encounters regardless of provider name, no one tells it which cell service to use.

My ResMed says it’s T-Mobile and barely gets 1 bar, no matter where I put it in my house ☹️

Go on youtube and learn how to get into the clinician's reports on your machine's display. There is more information on the display than in MyAir.

If it was set up in your settings, you have MUCH MORE reliable data available the minute you get up on your machine's Sleep Report. Nothing has to be sent anywhere.

And if it was not set up, you can do it yourself in the "clinical" menu.

From a technology perspective any device on a cellular network either must have a physical SIM card or an eSIM (digital SIM) that contains specific information needed to identify it on a cellular network. Part of that information includes the cellular provider data so the connection handshake allows the device to connect to the proper provider. Note that this is not the SD card that records data, it is a SIM card required for cellular service and much smaller.

My understanding is that ResMed devices contain a physical SIM card, so in theory they should be able to be swapped out by a properly trained individual.

My ResMedAirSense 10 says it uses CDMA cell technology. To the best of my (layman's) understanding, this means that the signal can only be passed by cell providers who use CDMA technology. AFAIK, Verizon and T-Mobile use CDMA but AT&T does not. Hopefully someone that knows more about cell technology will come along and confirm or debunk my info.

CDMA is 3G. 3G is being completely replaced by 4G. In the future when your 3G is replaced, your machine will no longer have a network and won't be able to send on 4G. When you see machines for sale, make sure it says 4G and not 3G (CDMA).

Or just forget about MyAir, and read the data on the screen.

Excellent advice from greatunclebill and clownbell (which I completely forgot about) regarding 3G and 4G related to their cellular channel access method needing 4G (LTE or GSM) and not getting one with 3G (CDMA). When looking for a used or even new device (which could be a refurb) make sure on the “My Options”->”About” screen the cellular network type is 4G.

Or just pay it no mind at all.
The cellular connection only activates the "idiot light",
when far more useful data is available by
LOOKING ON THE SCREEN.
Some users are so annoyed by the "phone home" feature,
they open up the device and disconnect the modem.

I understand that 3G is not current technology. But here is my question: isn't 4G backward compatible -- meaning that 3G will still be usable even though not current? Hopefully someone has an authoritative answer.

Of course the dream would be 5G with wi-fi capability, but that is probably a light-year away -- by which time 5G will be old technology. :?
