CPAP new guy

Post by Tinben » Mon Jan 11, 2021 9:41 am

Just wanted to introduce myself and start a thread as the beginning of my journey is about to start. I will be doing an At Home study Thursday night of this week and I have a pretty good idea what the results will be. Not the extent of the results but I am sure I will be put on CPAP. I snore, choke, gasp and even talk to myself when I sleep. I will post my results here in this thread. From the recommendations of others I plan on Resmed machine with the F30i mask.

Welcome! You seem to have a good attitude about cpap, and that will help you enormously in adjusting to the therapy. When you are ready to acquire your machine the folks here will be able to point you to just the right Resmed machine to get.

Thanks for the welcomes. I am one to kinda accept a diagnosis and try to solve it the best I can. Already have an insulin pump hooked to me and it has helped me tremendously. I hope the cpap will be also. My wife has mentioned to me for years that I might have sleep apnea but I am finally going to do something about it. My son said I actually scared him  one night when I fell asleep in the recliner. He was sneaking in the kitchen for a late night snack and I gasped for air.

Thank ya very much. I guess I thought it would be easier to keep it in one thread with my intro. I don’t think the mask bother me but I try to stay positive. 8)

Update. Picked up test kit from sleep center today. The kit is a Respironics Alice. The nurse lady said it would be two weeks to get results back to doctor. I am guessing it would be my endocrinologist since she was the one that ordered it. I hope it will be sooner because I am kinda anxious to get started. 8)

The Alice One is a type 3 home sleep study. Doesn't measure sleep status though.

That’s the one. Leave to this town to have a outdated test kit. Don’t mean to sound judgmental but just the appearance of the operation seemed below par. We are in a pandemic and she answers the door with no mask on. The other two ladies didn’t have one either. She was nice at least. I will hook up tonight about 10 and hope it gets results.

Most home sleep studies are type 3 sleep studies. So it doesn't necessarily mean outdated. Just not as comprehensive and Type 3 is what is commonly started with unfortunately. I always wondered how they could call it a "sleep study" and not actually measure sleep....but that's just another in my long list of complaints with how the medical profession does some things. For some reason none of them have ever asked me my opinion.

More information on sleep studies and their types here

As long as you sleep decently for the most part it is going to be reasonably accurate.

i HATE it when people don't take masking up seriously.

anyway, i did a home sleep test myself, so i have nothing against them. nor do i know which test it was. all i know is that it got me to a machine and mask. logged on here, got advice and things are rosy now.

come back and let us know how it went, what machine and so on.

good luck!

I will definitely come back and keep yuns up to date. Two weeks later they say for my endocrinologist to get the results. Then it will just be a matter of getting in to see her. I don’t mind to see her for the insulin samples.😎 I will get a copy of the report they send to her. Today I looked at my dads kit. I am trying to get him back on it. It looks like an older Respironics but I need to get the numbers.
