ResMed F30 headgear FIX, YAY!

Post by gv280z » Sat Jun 08, 2019 8:02 pm

Hi all, lately I've been struggling alot with my F30 which i really like the mask but hate the headgear. The top "head" strap is very painful when tight but if left too loose, then the lower straps irritate the backs of my ears because of riding lower on the skull. And of course all of this directly affects the seal of the mask.

I'm very happy to report (please forgive me if this is old news) because i also use an Amara View, which utilizes a very comfortable headgear, I figured out that i could just easily switch the velcro straps from the View over to the frame of the F30 and add the magnetic clips and it works great!

Absolutely no issues with the mask being at a bad angle being used on a different headgear. So now I've the best of both worlds, better mask, lower, almost non existent leaks with really comfortable straps around the ears and noggin.

After this discovery I immediately went and found two more new standard size replacements on Amazon for $14 a piece (because they do wear out rather quickly)

Sooo, all of you that, like me have both in your stable, you may wanna try it out. The Amara F30 hybrid.
Yay :D For no more diaphragm cramps and dozing off while driving!

Ok, so I just sat with my F30 & my Amara View trying to figure out what you did. Very clever! I'm currently using AirTouch 20, I'm liking that one best so far. Hard to settle, or I should say hard to find one that fits well, doesn't leak, and doesn't wake me up. Is that too much to ask?

I wish headgears and other parts (eblow) were more interchangeable between the various masks, so we would have more combinations to choose from.

Thanks for the tip! I just ordered the Amara view headset to try it. The ResMed F30 straps tends to work it's way down and sit low until it rubs the tops of my ears.

Another thing I wish was if ResMed sold the magnetic clips at a reasonable price. I've had to super-glue mine back together -- the little magnet covers came off.

I'm just glad I was able to bring something to the table!

Since making the original post after the hybrid headgear setup, it's been working great. Used my F30 last night and had a great night, slept hard. I like the new updated Amara View headgear I just received, they have now included magnetic clips instead of the previous pressure clip on style, very similar to the Dreamwear full face mag clips.

Just curious---how close are those magnetic clips to the purse snaps sold at Jo-Ann's or Michael's?
One might be able to use both sides, and a UV cured epoxy.

The blue magnet cover came off on both my clasps. But, they super-glued back on and I've not had a problem with them since. Still, I'd love to have some spares.

Not sure how they compare to those purse snaps -- here's what I have on my F30 headset:

Not even close.
But if the superglue dries and releses, the UV epoxy has a little flex.
The bullfrog has used it to repair his phone case--heretofore considered unrepairable.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share with you some pics of my headgear and current "Tune" because I'm seriously happy with my strap settings right now (comfort with no LEAKS!) and hopefully some of you may be able to benefit.

So what do I mean by Tuning the Headgear? Don't I just slap on the headgear, put the straps and that's it? Well, yes but if you want to be precise and make equal adjustments to both sides and have some point of reference to default to or adjust from (because over time the straps loosen up and get stretched out) you need to use a marker as a place holder once you have gotten your straps adjusted to where you are happy with them, or very close to it, from which point you can make equal tiny adjustments to get it just right. I've included pics and measurements as a template to go by for starting at a baseline.

Ofcourse I realize that all face / head shapes and sizes are different and what works well for me most likely won't work for someone else but atleast it'll provide a general stepping off point. Also in the pics you can see that I really am using the Amara View headgear with my F30 mask.

A question I have is since the new headgear for the amara view now comes with the magnetic clips does that mean you can just order this headgear and just use as is with the f30 mask and nothing else is needed to do?
Thanks

Sorry if this was asked before but does the amara view headgear just come in the standard size, if not how do you determine the correct size?

THAT...is a great question, which I had to just research to learn some kind of answer, cuz I really didn't know. There are two sizes, Standard and Large, and they don't seem to be labeled as such. I've always had the standard size which has always worked very well. To put in perspective, I measured my head with a tape measure, diameter was 23 inches, forehead to back of my head was 10 Inches, and from ear tip (top) to ear tip was 12 inches.

They don't last forever though, they stretch out so (the Standard becomes a Large!) I'm continually having to make small adjustments in the strap tightness, and the velcro wears out as well. I just ordered another one off Amazon, seems like I'm using about 2 or 3 a year.

Thanks for your response, but I also want to know from you is it correct in my assumption that all one just has to purchase the Respironics amara view headgear and with no other thing being done just use this with the f30 cushion?
Sorry for being so wordy.
