Mask Gel Instead of Liners?

Post by QueSera » Fri Mar 30, 2018 8:47 am

Has anyone used mask gel to seal up leaks, instead of a mask liner? I don't think I've ever seen a post on it.

I ordered something called Mask Mate from Amazon, no longer available. It's a gel in a small jar. I spread it on the mask where it contacts my face and it gives me a pretty good seal until about 4 a.m.; after that it loses its "stick" in the most leak-prone spots. When I wake up, I clean the mask with a wipe, but there is no residue left on my skin at all.

Best of all -- and what really counts --is that I'm getting the lowest leak results I've ever gotten. I'm doing this with my new Dreamwear full-face mask, which I love, but I'm going to dig out my very leaky Amara View and see if it helps that, too.

Has anyone had success with this kind of thing? Curious: has anyone ever tried denture adhesive between mask and face to eliminate leaks?

I've never heard of it, Sounds interesting. What is it made from?

It says in a blurb on its Amazon page that’s it is silicone-based and approved for incidental food contact. Also that it is based on a similar product that divers use (who knew?) but with a viscosity better for CPAP masks and users. FDA approved. Also made in the USA.

It's been discussed in the past on the forum by scuba divers who are familiar with it.
Not a lot of common use but I remember it from a few years back.
I suspect it could probably be found at websites that cater to scuba divers, etc.

The good thing about liners, they are reusable and you usually don't get them in your mouth.
Why would you put any foreign gel near your mouth where you could ingest it, no thanks. Jim
