blood pressure

Post by steveneprattjr » Tue Dec 09, 2014 5:20 am

has anyone ever had this happen to them. I was on 30 milligrams of lisinopril before CPAP treatment. 2 months and to treatment I am NOT on blood pressure medication. And my blood pressure is normal.

I just saw my cardiologist and I too was on lisinopril and after starting on cpap a month or so ago I have been able to stop. CPAP is a good thing. I'd rather use pressurized air than drugs to treat anything...

Oh yes... this is normal. Ain't it great? I lost a bunch of weight, my diabetes dropped to almost nonexistent and my blood pressure also dropped. Sleep apnea contributes to a multitude of health issues. My sleep study AHI was 70+. What do you think it does to your body of you hold your breath 70+ times per hour, every hour (that you sleep), every day? If you think of it that way it's no wonder a lot of your issues either are reduced or eliminated with proper cpap therapy. Enjoy!

Yes, some lucky people will find that their blood pressure returns to normal levels (without needing meds) with effective cpap therapy.
Not everyone is so lucky though...over 5 years of great cpap therapy and just a couple of months ago I finally yielded and started taking blood pressure meds for my not so borderline anymore (kept creeping up) blood pressure.

It is like anything else...if sleep apnea was the direct cause for a problem...effective cpap therapy should help resolve the problem but not all our problems are caused by sleep apnea (as much as we would wish they were) so effective cpap therapy can't help with a problem that isn't caused by sleep apnea.

My diastolic has been creeping up for years. It was 86 at the doctors office two months ago. This morning at my follow-up appointment after a little over a month on BiPAP it was 78. My weight is also down in spite of the holidays.
