Eating before bed

Post by Woody » Tue Mar 18, 2014 6:48 pm

i haven't really been keeping a record about what time I have supper. But it seems that if I have
a large dinner close to bedtime my average cpap pressure will be a little higher than if I eat earlier
or have a lighter diner. Is this common ?

I don't know if it's common... but it happens to me also. I eat very little before I go to bed... maybe something light, like a few crackers or a very small piece of fruit. If I eat anything the least bit on the heavy side, along with my AHI going up the indigestion is awful.

Yes, it may be the abdominal pressure or some reflux

In the current issue of Sleep and Breathing, March 2014, Volume 18, Issue 1, pp 53-58, there's an article about this entitled, A fatty meal aggravates apnea and increases sleep in patients with obstructive sleep apnea[/b. A fatty meal was significantly correlated with increase in API and sleep time in OSA patients. While GERD and other issues might be involved they were not cited in the study.

ALL my meals are fatty, and I sleep fine on CPAP. I have reflux with certain "trigger" foods, primarily dairy, so I stay away from that in the evenings especially.

I eat right before bed, (3:30 AM), gestmate the insulin needed to get to wake up, and hope to guess right. I sleep fine.
