OSA and fibromyalgia, part 2

Post by ThirdOutOfFive » Thu Aug 04, 2011 9:07 am

I suspect that the stress of adjusting to the PAPpy has caused a fibro-flair. Anyone else have experience with this?

My FM did not flair when I was adjusting to the machine, except for the Fridays thru Sundays when I took my weekly Fosamax dose.I was disabled every weekend for a month with severe bone crushing and muscle/joint pain then. After a month and I threatened to not take it anymore, Dr found it was due to very low Vit D level and that I wasn't taking enough daily calcium (I need a minimum of 1500 mg Ca++ daily). If you have osteoporosis or osteopenia and are taking Fosamax or any of the other OP drugs, have you Dr check your D levels, and correct them if too low. It will make a difference in how you feel with your FM once you have the correct level of Vit D and calcium in you when you take the osteoporosis drug. Vit D alone has also been found to be low in many FM patients, even those without Osteoporosis/Osteopenia and taking the bisphosphonate drugs. I went off the Fosamax for 3 months while we got my levels fixed, and now I am Ok when i take the Fosamax. The rain or cold always makes my FM flair.

Thanks for info. I stopped fosamax will do another bone den. soon, since I know I have again for sure osteopina since stopping the drug. jUst figured extra walking and taking cal1200/vit d800 would be good enough. Fibr. one orth dr said I have that, but doubt cause my aches are from posture at work and phy therapy finally after several years I am ok.

Thanks for the replies. I don't take a pill for bone density, but I do take D3 and eat lots of dairy. Cold, rainy weather is not my friend, either.

Hopefully you will settle into the routine of using your xPAP device. Familiarity breeds contentment, better sleep and hopefully lower stress over all. Of course, if you do continue to have problems, don't be shy. I continue to be amazed at some of the innovative solutions that people find. Surely someone will have some helpful suggestions (just as you saw above).
