Noob needs advice on mask

You had provided some good info and encouragement and I am now ready to buy an M Series Auto CPAP with A-Flex. I wasn't sure what mask to get - I'm not really a mouth-breather - and trying my Mother's old CPAP seemed able to use the nasel mask while keeping my mouth sealed.

I noted you use a Hybrid Full Face CPAP Mask with Nasal Pillows and Headgear and it looks good. Would you recommend it and/or do you notice any flaws? The full face mask that I tried seemed claustraphic. Do you have any other recommendations for masks?

Thanks for all!

BL,

You are making a good choice of machines, IMO. If you are self-diagnosed and self-titrated, you need to get the software and card reader with the machine. Get the integrated humidifier with the machine.

If you are reasonably comfortable with the nasal mask you are using, then don't spend the money on a new one at this point. Get the machine and software and figure out what is really going on with your therapy. After some sense of pressure requirements, leaks, AHI, etc. is known, it will be easier to narrow down which additional mask should be acquired.

Please bookmark this thread and come back to update it and ask more questions as things progress.

Good luck,
Rooster

Thank you again for the tips and encouragement. With her permission, I gave my mother's CPAP to my brother to try. (He needs it way more than me - and so far it seems to be saving his marriage, if not his life. (..just paying it forward, as CPAPtalk.com has done for me.)

Anyways, I don't have her mask anymore. I had to choose something so I chose the Ultra Mirage II Nasal Mask.

I didn't opt for the humidifier because I didn't seem to need it using my mother's machine. Hopefully I still wont need it.

The Hybrid Full Face CPAP Mask with Nasal Pillows looks excellent. Anyone have any comments on it??

The Hybrid mask is a full face mask. Full face masks are for the 40% of patients who mouthbreathe or mouthleak. If you don't do either of these, you probably will prefer a nasal mask or nasal pillows because they are smaller and less confining.

IMO, you would do better to wait to buy a second mask. See how the UM nasal mask works for you with your new machine. The money for a second mask would be better spent on a card reader and Encore Viewer software. The data you get can help you determine if you are mouthbreathing/leaking and narrow down which additional mask to purchase.
