I don't think in or out of the states has anything to do with it. This is not under warranty due to the type of accident.
Pudellver,

There must have been a lot of complaints regarding water leakage into the Sandan machines because of humidifier for them to have changed this so soon.

I am going to call the customer service and tech in the States on Monday. I cannot buy another machine as my credit card is maxed and I still have to finish paying for the other one. Because it is obviously a defect in the design we should be able to have our machines repaired or replaced.

You have nothing to lose by trying. They need to know how many people have had water damage to their machines and not through neglect.

The Respironics classic tanks in the Remstar line have a very similar HH, but connected at the front of the machine. Inside the water chamber is a little plastic dealy that suppose to prevent water back flowing into the machine if jarred or overfilled...it definitely won't protect against a tumble or a fairly agressive shake or jar. So your comment about a separate humidifier is a point well taken.

I know that many here love the Fisher & Paykel HC150 Heated Humidifier. I am starting to think that may be the way to go.

Darn to bad there wasn't a company that would take in damaged CPAPs and repair...I guess though the cost could be higher than buying some of the smaller inexpensive CPAP machines in CPAP.com? I am only allowed one new machine every 5 years under my insurance plan and the cost would have to come out of my pocket. Wow, that is a chunk of change to lay out for new unit. Thank goodness you have a back-up!

Pudellvr,

I contacted cpap.com and they sent me an RMA# and instructions for sending the Sandman auto in to be sent to Covidien for assessment and repair. They asked that I write a note on top of the machine stating what the problem(s) was with the machine. I will have to pay for shipping but that is not as bad as losing out on 1000.00 (software included). They stated it would take at least 6 weeks but that I could use a loaner if needed while waiting. Six weeks or a couple of months is better than losing out on 1000.00 (since software is useless without the machine.

I am going to call Covidien in the morning and let them know that I am shipping it to cpap.com and they will sent it to them. I want them to know that I feel the humidifier is too light weight and if there is even a little tug on the hose while sleeping it can tip the machine causing the humidifier to leak into the machine. I am going to suggest they look into this design flaw as one cannot control their movements when sleeping and this has happened to me twice. Once it fell from the table when my arm was over the hose when I turned... and again much later when I had it on the carpet by my bed it tipped when I sat up to close a window (my bed is against the window wall and within reach. I had been woken by strong wind and rain coming in on me.

I still think it is the best machine for software. Its only flaw is the integrated humidifier. You should call Covidien to let them know about your accident also so that they know others are also having problems with the integrated humidifier so then maybe they will fix the design flaw.

Cpap.com has been very good and I am pleased with their response. I hope Covidien is as graceful as they are too.

I thought my machine was safe on the floor! Apparently not.

Anne

Maybe they can change the design so water can't get in if it tips. In the meantime, like you, I don't want to use an integrated humidifier ever again. I will buy the stand alone humidifier.

I did the same yesterday. I am very pleased with CPaP.com.
