Still banned. I really don't think that this is something that someone else is doing via my account. My password is long and random, not guessable in my lifetime. And not exposed anywhere. Changing my password to another long, random password has no effect.

This appears to simply be a forum software bug that happens to target me for some reason. Although others have mentioned having this happen.

Still banned, by the way.

If you are banned, how are you commenting?

Yes, well, a VPN will give you a different IP than your ISP, you know. Works fine, but annoying. I'm only using the VPN for this forum right at the moment, never been banned anywhere else.

Still banned.

  • Turn off you VPN
  • Make a note of the forward-facing IP address when you get the banned message
There's a lot of public sites that give you you IP address (https://whatismyipaddress.com/)
  • Also note any IP addresses where you aren't getting the banned message
This way we will know if it's yur ISPs range or specific IP address that is banned
  • Forward the banned IP addresses to admins for removal to the board's banned list.
I suspect your IP address, or range is an address that was used sometime in the past and is still hanging around.

If that’s the answer, how do you account for the ban coming and going? The IP Address from my ISP never changes. Seems flakier than that.

Because ISPs do not have a single IP address, they have a range of addresses. Depending on their particular DHCP/Lease time configuration you can be assigned different IP addresses.

IE:
Your ISP has the range 100.100.100.1 - 100.100.100.254

Sometime in the past, somebody using the IP address 100.100.100.52 was doing something and that address was put on the SPAM list. When your router connects to your ISP, it is assigned an address in the range 100.100.100.x.

Sometimes it is assigned the banned address, 100.100.100.52, other times it's not. This example was based on a single IP Address, but IP bans can also be based on ranges of addresses. Sometimes when you connect you might be within the range, other times outside of it.

IP Addresses are typically not static, they are dynamic, but depending on the configuration lease time we can have the same address a while.

I'll just say it one more time, the IP Address I get from my ISP hasn't changed in some time. On the other hand, the bans come and go from time to time...twice in the last couple of weeks with a few days in between. My IP Address didn't change during this period. The reason that I know is that I look at my router admin web interface at least once a day. Home networking is a hobby of mine, so I stay on top of things.

I take your point, however I don't think that it fits my case.
