OSA & Life Insurance
OSA & Life Insurance
My wife and I took an exam applying for term life insurance prior to my diagnosis. I spoke with our agent today as I haven't received any information concerning my policy and he tells me that my wife has been approved but my policy is still at the underwriters awaiting info from my docs on the severity of my apnea. I won't lie, I'm a little concerned that since I wasn't diagnosed at the time of my initial physical, they will think I was trying to hide my apnea from them. HELP!
I reject your reality and substitute my own!
Let us know how it turns out.
As far as I'm concerned, if an AHI of less than 5.0 is "normal", I don't have apnea. If it ever came to something like that, I've got my reports with all of the nightly statistics going back to the first night......and I'm below 5.0.....actually below 1.0.....so, does that make me "sub-normal"? (some might agree)

I must say that my wife and I are both "healthy" non-smokers, 2 years age difference, and my life insurance costs twice as much for half the coverage...that's what I get for being honest...I didn't have to do a medical.
For it to be less, I have to be cured (documented) for 1 year...

Do you know if a cure is one year of compliance in using a xPAP machine? Per Den's comment above, you should be able to argue it that way if the ins co says no, which they inevitably will since they deny first and change usually only when you appeal or threaten/file a lawsuit (for example, State Farm getting walloped in Mississippi for denying Katrina a claim with a huge punitive damage award against it this week).

Re: OSA & Life Insurance
Since they found out you have apnea before they issued the policy, they don't care whether or not you attempted "to hide" the condition. All they are interested in now is determining the severity and setting a premium for the policy.Jaxdad wrote:My wife and I took an exam applying for term life insurance prior to my diagnosis. I had a large life insurance policy with a premium guaranteed to age 65 before I ever knew I had apnea. I am very happy about this policy because I assume if I try to get another one now I will be quoted a very high premium due to diagnosis of severe OSA.
I would like to hear back from you on how things come out.
Thanks,
