Adjusting pressures

Post by JFredline » Mon Jul 27, 2020 8:09 pm

I recently got back into using my BIPAP dreamstation, and I have to prove compliance to my insurance company. The original pressure I was prescribed back in 2017 was IPAP 19 and EPAP 15 with a full face mask. I have noticed since resuming therapy that the pressures make me very uncomfortable. I am constantly waking up feeling SOB and tingly. I am almost certain that I am having pressure induced central apnea events. I hate to go against the advice of my MD, but I changed my settings to CPAP on 10cm H20 in desperation hoping that this would resolve the apnea and stomach discomfort. Does anyone know if insurance/DME looks to see if pressures have been adjusted. And if so, would this affect compliance. My understanding its just the 4hrs every night for 21 out of 30 days deal

Thank you

All the insurance company wants is for you to use the machine they paid for...Why would they care if you made your therapy more comfortable? The insurance company have no way to see your data...HIPPA rules forbid it. Your DME can monitor your usage to be sure you are complying....this is during the first 90 days only. If you got this machine back in 2017, there are no compliance issues for you.

welcome to the zoo!

first, what is "SOB"?

second, get the tracking software, oscar, and take care of you're own sleep apnea. see the link in my sig below. once you start posting charts from oscar, people here can help you optimize your therapy.

good luck!

I'm sorry SOB means short of breath. I will check out the Oscar app thanks so much for that tip. Its such a hassle working with insurance and DME companies that I was worried my experimentation would cause my insurance to deny coverage

And thanks for the welcome. Looking forward to learning from everyone

ah! i learn from others, in that every one is my master. or something like that.

now, your doctor may not care for you changing your settings, but that's her lookout. we here on the forum are VERY hands on. so we've got your back.

now, when you get oscar up and running, PLEASE return to this thread to post charts or ask questions. that would be much appreciated.

good luck!
