I feel like Marcia Brady...

Post by Jaxdad » Tue Dec 19, 2006 8:35 pm

Oh, my nose! Oh, my nose!

I guess my mask is too tight. Or improperly fitting. I have been with my new sleep partner 4 nights and I have developed a pretty sore area across the bridge of my nose. Help! Do I need a new mask or just go to my provider to have it re-fit?

Is the ff with pillows a better fit? I need the ff because of a lot of mouth breathing during the night.

All that I can tell you is that I like it... will it work for you?? I dunno. It doesn't hit the bridge of my nose at all. The pillows are under my nose and the rest of the mask is just on my mouth.

Don't know if this will be of any help to you. I actually rubbed the skin off the bridge of my nose with my ff mask. I bought some Lantiseptic (it's very thick salve for bedsores available from the Pharmasist.....non prescription) and apply it nightly. Not only healed the nose in no time, but now offers lubrication to keep it from happening again. Good luck with whatever you end up doing. I know a raw nose bridge is no fun.

Jaxdad, I have the same problem with three of my masks (Comfort Classic, ComfortFull 2, and F&P 432). I have a pretty good sized beak, so there's plenty of surface area to become irritated from a mask.

If I wake up during the night with a sore nose, I try to just shift the mask up a bit to relieve the pressure. Also applying a lotion or first aid cream the next morning seems to help it heal faster.

Another possibility is to use a product called Mole Skin, which you may have already read about here. It's found in the foot care section of your pharmacy and I believe is a Dr. Scholl's product. I found that cutting off and applying a small strip of it, just wide enough to cover the tender spot, did provide some relief at night. The trade-off is that you may experience some air leakage, which can also be a "pain."

My experience has been that my schnoz eventually gets toughened up enough so that it's no longer a major problem. Every now and then -- this morning for instance -- it gets a little tender, but not too bad.

Hang in there.

The Hybrid tends to work best on people with smaller mouths, and "chipmunk cheeks". The big question with the Hybrid is: Will one of it's curves (3 mouthpieces) fit your face and seal well. Example: I must either wear my partial plate or tie a wrap over my head and under my chin to create "chipmunk cheeks', or it won't work at all.

Why do I go to this trouble to use the Hybrid? Because, I feel much better
in the AM, with the Hybrid than any other mask, even though I usually
need to take it off and wipe the seal twice per night.

+ Aussie heated hose.

Jaxdad,
I do not use a full face, but I did have a sore nose at one time. There's a theory that the plastic comes with "stuff" on it which irritates the skin. After givinig the mask a really good soak in water with baby shampoo, the sore nose went away. DON'T do what I did and put tape on the sore area and tear it apart further. OUCH.

too tight at the nosebridge, you need to adjust the pivot of the mask so it doesn't put so much pressure there, push the button and adust the forehead pivot until leaks are felt in the eyes then take it back enough to stop the leak.

That reference just cracked me up! Oh God, how I had a crush on that girl. Have you heard now that she has new demons to battle? Yep, she's yet another bulemic Hollywood Actress. OK. OK. I won't be hard on her. At least she's not throwing up any longer. She's now on Celebrity Fit Club, though. Now that's making lemonade outta lemons!
The Maureen McCormick Fan Club wrote: Maureen McCormick will be getting in shape on the latest edition of Celebrity Fit Club 5 on VH-1, starting in April, 2007. Other celebrities include: Dustin Diamond from "Saved By The Bell," pop star Tiffany, country music artist Cledus T. Judd, rapper Da Brat, Ross "The Intern" Mathews from "The Tonight Show," "American Idol" contestant Kimberley Locke and rapper Warren G.
Good luck to her! ...

Hello From the Mall

Post by -SWS » Wed Dec 20, 2006 4:44 pm

Boy, you talk about a coincidence. I just ran into Jan Brady down at the mall today. She appeared extremely disgruntled. She kept mumbling: "Marcia this... Marcia that... It's always Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!" Then she stormed off without a warning, mumbling something about Marcia's nose even managing to get attention on cpaptalk.com.

Wonder what the heck that was all about?

Obviously, she's sleep deprived. Perhaps she has OSA? ....

Once again research pays off! Apparently bradybunchologists knew exactly what that was all about. They even explain it in the Jan Brady section here.

And the kojackologists even have your 1960's show covered here.

Robbie Rist AKA Cousin Oliver remains as the only likely candidate for OSA from the Brady Bunch.
