Getting (re)Started
Re: Getting (re)Started
ResScan 5.9 can be found here. It will work with your S8.
www.sleepfiles.com/resscan/31302_ResScan_5.9.zip
While there is a 6.0 version it involves password log ins that people are really bitching about and there is no urgent need to use 6.0 over 5.9 anyway. Nothing has changed in terms of data reported in years. The newer versions are mainly minor bug fixes and to make the software compatible with the newer model machines as they are released.
I refuse to even install 6.0 at this point. Encore Pro from Respironics does that password log in thing and it's a nightmare especially when you forget your log in password and your mess up 3 times and you get locked out and then you get to reinstall everything.
Been there...done that and don't want to do it again.

Re: Getting (re)Started
Night 3, couldn't even get to sleep. Felt like I was suffocating and couldn't breathe properly.
Re: Getting (re)Started
Tell us exactly what all the settings are that you tried to use last night.
Ramp???? Pressure settings???? Use EPR??? If using EPR at what setting???

Re: Getting (re)Started
Assuming "Ramp" = "Settling" - 10 mins
EPR (no idea, couldn't find it in the wiki, forum search result says "minimum of 4 characters")
Pressure: It's in APAP mode, so it ramped up to 7.6 cmH2O (according to ResScan)
I did, however, just find that the mask setting was set to "Mirage Full", but I have no idea what it should be set to for the Philips mask.

Re: Getting (re)Started
in apap mode, the machine will have a minimum pressure and a maximum pressure. so, it looks like that 7.6 would be the minimum pressure.
so, i'm assuming (yeah, i know, shame on me.) that your maximum pressure is 20.

Re: Getting (re)Started
3 hours last night. A big part of it, I think, is purely sensory (the autistic thing).
Re: Getting (re)Started
Monday night: 4hrs, 48m.
Also, the total time I slept.
Today has been rough.

Re: Getting (re)Started
What can be done (if anything) to help you get past not being able to sleep with the mask and machine on?
Is it the mask or the air blowing or what?
What is it that bugs you...can you put it into words?
Is it just the warm air feeling? Might get a little help with that part by turning humidifier down a bit but if it's the warmth in your own exhaled breath that is creating the extra warmth...not much can be done about that.
The newer machines allow for more control over hose air temp than you get with the S8....so if it's not your exhaled breath there is a chance that the newer machines will let the air be cooler on your face and still not have to give up humidity if you need or want it.
Is it the sensation of the silicone touching your skin?
Have you tried desensitizing yourself to it by wearing it while watching TV or reading a book?

Re: Getting (re)Started
I'm getting used to it now. It's mostly sensory. I can go for a longer period without ripping it off.
I turned down the humidifier on the second night (the warm air was part of the issue).
I do struggle with the sensation of my exhalation getting caught in the mask, and eventually the sensation of not being able to freely breathe.
I've had one night where I kept it on literally all night until I woke up.
Another where I did the same, but after 4.5 hours sleep, my back was in too much pain to stay in bed.
I'm now thinking beyond "how do I keep the mask on at night?" to "how long before I start to see an impact in the way I feel?"

Re: Getting (re)Started
It took me two months to get decent AHI and leak numbers, but I was still feeling lousy and only sleeping 4-5 hours a night. During the last couple weeks, I had to force myself to try to get back to sleep, mostly using meditation techniques, and now that I am getting more like 7 hours (broken into two or three sleep sessions) I am finally feeling some of the benefits.
You probably are in the same boat - you likely need more hours of quality sleep every night before you notice the positive results.
