Thanks to all who have replied, and I see some good info.
I'll start working on getting a split night sleep study done right away, as that's a required step.
A word on Afrin in my experience: it's addictive in a way and you need to be so careful that you limit use. I don't recommend it unless you absolutely need it, then only use it to sleep, only one spray per nostril, and suffer through your day with congestion. Rebound is terrible and you WILL get there if you use enough. Don't ever think you can take one more spray during the day -- that's the path to rebound and then you're in trouble. It takes days to recover from rebound and you'll be terribly congested during that time. Results vary person to person! At the same time, I have to admit it's a godsend. I would not be able to sleep with my deviated septum since it shrinks my nasal passages enough to just compensate for the deviation. Buyer beware though!!!!!!! If you get addicted look up Rhinostat for ways to wean yourself off it. They are VERY helpful if you contact them through their contact page and will answer every question.
Now I'm wondering if I should eat some CBD oil (marijuana extract) to calm me during the recovery. I'll ask the ENT. I'm claustrophobic and a stuffy nose is enough to make me anxious already -- thinking about being plugged up with cotton and trying to sleep is worse. But I'll figure out a way through it.
I'll also ask the ENT about having a full mask touching my nose/ bridge of my nose, plus it will be blowing SOME air into my nose even if packed, and then a lot more if splints are in and cotton removed obviously.

I got my take-home sleep test today and will try to fall asleep with it tonight, but am wondering if I can. I've been using CPAP for 21 years every night, and am wondering if I'll start gasping awake and never fall asleep.
I have to drive 20 miles to return the equipment tomorrow whether or not I get good test results. They want 4 hours of sleep data.
Have any of you tried and failed with a take home test?
