I'm Back - Veteran needs help please
Hello everyone,
I have been away for a long, long time. Mainly because I have had no questions that I couldn't figure out myself but I have an issue now and I'm not sure what to do.
I had an S9 for 6-8 years and the sleep's been pretty good. A few days ago the humidifier had a fault and the damn thing was boiling. It's no good now. So I have a back up S9 but it's for traveling so I decided to pick up a new machine on Craigslist and I found a brand new, (still in package) Resmed Airsense 10 Auto for $300.00. I did good. I hooked it all up and adjusted
the ramp time and humidity and such but I didn't mess with the pressure since it was an auto and I wanted to see where it adjusted to over a week or so. At first I wasn't getting enough air and adjusting the ramp fixed that. Last night it was comfortable breathing before I fell asleep but as soon as I fell asleep, I was getting jerked awake. My breathing is stopping or I'm gasping.
There's no data on the chip that will be useful so what should I do? Note: I haven't had a sleep study in 10 years and I know I need one but for now, should I manually increase the pressure and take it off auto? I do not want to do that. I'm sleepy and I cannot think straight and thought I would ask to see if someone had any suggestions? Why would I be jerking awake? I think I am stopping breathing. Should I adjust the APR?

Why is there no data on the SD card? Did you have it unlocked? Was it inserted all the way?Nealbopper wrote:There's no data on the chip that will be useful so what should I do?
What were your pressure settings last night? Ramp? Ramp time? Min? Max?Nealbopper wrote:At first I wasn't getting enough air and adjusting the ramp fixed that.
No. But, you may need to increase your minimum pressure. Do you use Sleepyhead software?Nealbopper wrote:should I manually increase the pressure and take it off auto?
Why do you think you need a sleep study? If all you need is a review of pressure requirements and possibly adjustments, you can do that yourself with your AutoSet machine and free Sleepyhead software.Nealbopper wrote: I haven't had a sleep study in 10 years and I know I need one
Re: I'm Back - Veteran needs help please
If the pressure is wide open 4 to 20, it could very well be a pressure issue. If this is an Autoset it is full data and the SD card can be read with SleepyHead. Do you have software?
Here is the Provider Manual for your machine. https://sleep.tnet.com/home/files/resme ... -guide.pdf
If you don't have the software we can help you get it.

Thank you for your prompt response. I knew you all would help. OK, I downloaded Sleepytime this morning. My SD was in but will one night be enough data?
I have never reviewed my own data with software but watched a video TheLankyLefty27 did on YouTuibe so I'm confident I can do it. If you suggest there's
enough data I will check it out, I just figured I'd need more than one night of crappy sleep to get data I could use. Hummm.
Here are my number settings -
Ramp time: 15 minutes
Max: 20
Min: 6.6 (max settings)
Response: Standard (I do not know what this is?)
Start: 6.6
EPR: off

Re: I'm Back - Veteran needs help please
Organize and post your Sleepyhead charts. This is the data that will help us to help you. See my signature for how to.
1 night will let us see what happened that one night. Likely that we would suggest an adjustment in some manner, but that is best done after seeing how the PAP responded to what.
If it is set at 4-20 it is likely we will suggest a higher starting pressure.

Your right. More than one night is more useful but we may be able to find some areas that might help. What was your AHI and what is the break down of it? How high did the pressure go? And where did it stay for most of the night? Did you have events at the time you were waking and gasping? What was your settings on your old machine?

One night of data will get you started down the right road....once you get close with the settings then you can take the time to dial it in with a bit of tweaking. There's no sense in using settings that are obviously not nearly close for multiple nights just to end up making the same choices as you would with 1 night.
Post the detailed graphs...see this thread for examples of what we need to see. We do NOT need all the graphs that you will get with SH.

PHEW, Please see previous post, I edited it. Thank you in advance.
Re: I'm Back - Veteran needs help please
Image not quite there yet. when you get a chance reread the links Pugsy posted. Looks like a cluster of hypopneas may have been what you felt. The pressure increases after them and doesn't decrease much. I think you are going to need a higher minimum. I'm thinking close to 10. What were your old settings?Nealbopper wrote:[img][/img]

Re: I'm Back - Veteran needs help please
OkyDokey - My previous settings were 14 but I did that. I will increase to 10 for now. I'm really interested in seeing what the AUTO suggests I need.
I guess I'm trying not to over do it. I may have already but in an effort to correct possible errors, I was hoping to take it slow and learn what
setting is best. Does that make sense? Neal

Well Neighbor, I was thinking about 13 min, maybe 14, but I didn't want to start there.

Re: I'm Back - Veteran needs help please
You gotta get the sleep first to have any chance of figuring out what pressures you are needing. So you have to get it close in terms of pressure needs and then you can tweak...gotta have the sleep first though.
I can't see this image well enough to comment and the pie chart and calendar are hiding useful statistics. Please review the links I posted.
If your past pressure setting was 14....the 10 cm minimum is probably a better choice for now....you can always tweak it a bit up or down later based on what you see on the reports once you have nice solid long blocks of sleep to evaluate.

compare your image to the desired one, many discrepancies.
