Respironics Remstar 460P "Service needed" message!

Post by 123.Shawn T.W. » Sat Aug 20, 2016 5:13 am

Howdy all!

I've not been around much, as everything has been working as it should, and I've been busy ...

I'm a long distance truck driver ... left home Thursday and put my 460 cpap in my truck, I stopped for fuel about 3 hrs later, and I heard a beeping noise, I finely traced it down to my cpap, it was blinking too, nothing I did with the buttons would shut it up, or give me what type of error code was causing it to put the "service needed" message up ... so, I unplugged it! Gave it a minute, and plugged it back in ... seemed fine ... I drove off!

About 8 hrs later I stopped for the night, and as I was getting ready for bed, it started again! It was plugged in, but not turned on! I unplugged it, and then plugged it in again ... prayed it would work through the night, and it did!

Yesterday a few times I noticed it blinking and beeping ... worked ok through the night last night, but when I got up to pee, I unplugget it ...

Remstar Pro 460p

Date code 20131105

Blower hrs 6543.7

Card is "88% free"

What's going on?

Can it be reset by me?

One more thing to add ...

The only "problem" I've had, was a few months ago my aphixiation (sp?) Valve on my Mirage Quattro would flutter on inhale, making a annoying noise, and felt like someone was lightly slapping my mask ... I switched masks, same problem, discovered it seemed position sensitive, and the weight of the flap would hold it closed if positioned just right! (And I didn't gulp a big breath!)

I ended up "fixing it" by bumping up the pressure from 10 to 11, it's been fine since ...

I use a surge protector and turn it off every morning when getting up. I don't like to leave electrical current to the machine when it is not in use.

Sorry, can't help you about the error message. A backup machine is always a good idea.

Excellent advice.

afaik that means it can only be fixed by a dme and prob not worth the money. Check craigslist where ever you are and get another cpap right away. Get the same model and you can use your humidifier, power adapter, and other supplies.

Shawn good to hear from you again. Glad you manage your sleep.

Thanks! Seemed to be closed on the weekend, I'll call them on Monday ...

Not sure who the "guest" was, but ... thanks!

Not sure I would say that I actually manage my sleep, but I got the sleep apnea under controll ... ahi less than 2 ... but still have all kinds of trouble getting a good night's sleep and not waking up rested ... life continues ...

Sheffey, I have a back up ... but, not surge protector, as it plugs into my "cig" lighter outlet in my truck ... 12 volt ... but, unplugged for the day, now!

It does not have lots of hours, considering a five year or more expected service life ... I use it every night, but it is past it's two year warranty ...

Does it do this plugged in to a wall outlet on utility power or only in the truck? Maybe you've got an issue with your inverter. Assuming your backup is identical or at least has compatible power supply, try it with the backup power supply. Do you have the humidifier attached? Remove and re-seat that. Also try with humidifier removed. You might get lucky and find it's only the power supply going bad, or just the humidifier and not the blower. I'm assuming the filters are OK, I don't see how they would be a cause but wouldn't hurt to change if needed.

I'm not using an inverter, plugs directly into the cig lighter in truck, used it at home on Wed night plugged into the 120 wall plug in my house ... it only started with this message after I left home ... I thought it might be it reached a certain number of hours type thing ... ?

Filter is fine ...

I just unplugged/separated the humidifier. .. and put it back together. .. and plugged in the power ... time will tell ...

I don't know of any issue after any specific number of hours passes, there's nothing to maintain on this thing besides the filters and the humidifier tank. If it were me I'd double check with a multi-meter the cigarette lighter socket, and also the output on barrel connector while the adapter is plugged in just to make sure you're getting 12 volts. I don't keep a spare 12v adapter around but if you happen to have one you could try swapping that out too. And try it with humidifier removed just for kicks.

Respironics Remstar 460P "Service needed" message!
I think the message is actually "Service Required". But it doesn't matter, it's not something you've done or can fix. It can only be fixed by the DME.

Search this forum using google or the advanced search option above using "Service Required" for more posts saying the same thing.

That happened to my brand new dreamstation one. Had it for about a month. One night it kept restarting itself although there's no leak. Then out if the blue it starts beeping and gave me an error code with service needed message. I recycled the power and worked that night. Brought it to the store and they checked with Respironic. Went throughout a test and failed. Git it replaced with a new one. I believe the pressure sensor was gone and that's why it shuts itself off.
But ya. Don't leave it connected to the power if not in use.

Mines out of warranty... new one is not in budget ...

Both of my back up machines are Respironics series 50 550 APAP's ... so nothing interchanges ... and they both have the same problem ... the APAP blower part will not tell the humidifier to work, turn on! First one died, but I bought it aleady out of warranty (but only 29 hrs on it) off of Craigslist ... when that died. .. I bought a new, but never used humidifier from someone on here, would not work! So I bought another one (550 + humidifier) from Secondwind with low hours, with a few months warranty ... all three humidifiers worked with the secondwind unit ... but, after the warranty expired ... it also died ...

So far this unit has only stopped/locked up when it was plugged in, but not while I was actually using it ... last night I got up to pee ... I turned of the cpap ... Took off my mask ... as I was getting up out of bed ... the unit started beeping and flashing! I then unplugged it, pee'd ... came back to bed, and used it fine the rest of the night!

So ... if this dies before I get home next week, I'll just dig out my old 550, and use it! Better than nothing, and I get a VERY small amount of passive humidity as the heater doesn't work, but the air passes over the water chamber ... not ideal ... but better than nothing ... I plan to call that place listed above and see if I can get this 460 fixed ... maybe even send them one of my 550's too ...

Sorry about your problems with the Beretta. I've never shot one.
