Re: Will You Get the Swine Flue Vaccine?
1. Considering I have 2 conditions that can be considered chronic, and I have a 4-month old son, yes, definately, and so will my wife. 2. I consider it chronic, for the fact that it lasts quite a while. You can treat it, but it's difficult to cure w/out surgery and/or implants, medical equipment, et...

Re: Cheyne Stokes Breathing Pattern
The articles I read were stating that if you had this condition you probably had an underlying illness such as congestive heart failure. And the cpap posts I found talked about needing to use an apap rather than a straight cpap machine to treat it. My doctor does not read any data, only goes by how...

Re: So what can I do to lower my AHI & HI numbers?
You have said several things that suggest you are not a good candidate for nasal pillows. You are taping and get air pressure in your mouth that requires you to un-tape to relieve the pressure. Those of us that use nasal therapy generally control the air with the back of the tongue against the roof...

Re: So what can I do to lower my AHI & HI numbers?
With a ResMed you can actually get a reported leak of 0.0 -- it'll be my goal when I get a data-capable machine. BTW, how do you like the hybrid mask? The "intern" that set me up at the clinic indicated that most people don't like nasal pillows because they are painful and irritating. Of course, th...

Re: So what can I do to lower my AHI & HI numbers?
did they show you how to access the clinical menu? If not, someone here might be able to help with that. I'd suggest switching to cpap mode and setting different pressures each night. Do a little self-titration. It seems like the machine isn't having to go much beyond 9 to solve problems, but it loo...

Re: Power On / Power Off
I leave mine plugged but switched off. Resmeds run the blower at a very low speed for a while after you switch off to dry out the hose and mask, and I think this is a good idea. It's somewhere between 30 and 60 minutes I think, and within 30 minutes of stumbling out of bed, I am in the car and driv...

Re: Power On / Power Off
Does removing all power have an impact on the stored data? Just got an Intellipap with all the bells and whistles. (Battery back-up, software, etc.) I imagine they'd have flash ram like the datacards, but you'd just have to experiment with it. Personally, I hook mine up to a hamster wheel during th...

Re: CPAP machine vs. Cat
I was also a bit worried about my 4 cats but, like jdm, most of mine have shown no interest. My "trouble maker" showed a bit of interest at first, but I had always enforced a "no cat zone" on my bedside table so I set up my CPAP and stood by waiting for him to show interest. As soon as he did, I ma...

Re: Painter's Tape
Painter's Tape for "Delicate Areas" No, no! You use it on your MOUTH! 2080 tape should work fine at 6cm as long as you aren't a heavy drooler (sorry...that's the nicest way I know to put it!) If you roll your lips in it will seal in the saliva as well as keep the tape off of your "delicate" lips. M...

Re: Painter's Tape
Whatever you do, DO NOT skimp on the quality of the tape. One time a friend of ours used cheap "Painter's tape" which superglued itself to the walls and windows she was trying to mask off. No bueno!

Re: AMBIEN AND APNEA
My Doc. prescribed Ambien for both my sleep studies and I've been taking as req. since my first visit. Seems rather harsh to say it will kill you unless you have some other underlying condition. It's a hypnotic not a CNS depressant when taken in it's prescribed dosage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

Re: Is it me or Resmed???
I know the Autoset, and probably the others in the S8 line, lower the pressure over a 20 minute period, as long as it doesn't ramp up again due to AH events... If your HI is 4, you're having 4 events per hour, which basically means once every 20 minutes, or as soon as the air pressure gets down to a...
