From studies with people who have had weight reduction surgery - you have a 49% chance of weight loss helping.
But we have many people here who were never over weight and others who lost weight and had to increase their pressure.

Re: CPAP vs. UPPP for a young person
Hey there! Newbie looking for advice. I was recently diagnosed with fairly severe OSA and the doctor has me starting CPAP but also recommended I consider UPPP (Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty). As the subject line implies I am fairly young and can reasonably expect 40 more y I am going to be stuck with s...

Re: humidification and asthma
The trick to side sleeping is to sleep at the edge of the pillow. Some people have taken bread knives to foam pillows to make that space for the mask better.

Re: Fatigue Persists? Check your meds.
Doctors will fight against acknowledging that your meds are a problem. I spent over a year on ever increasing (and expensive) asthma meds when a change in blood pressure meds solved the problem in less then a week. My GP is still going "It couldn't have been that, it is too rare"

Not only is it very individual but it changes with the seasons.
Take full control because only YOU really care about your therapy.

Re: Anyone love their chin strap?
I'm having a devil of a time with my chin strap and keeping my mouth shut. It's annoying to have my mouth pop open and have air rush out, along with being counter productive to the cpap. I find myself blowing raspberries during the night. If I tighten the strap up any more I'll have bruises on my c...

Re: OT: Merry Christmas
great effects! We started putting up our decorations and couple of weeks ago but the cold blew in and half the decorations into the back yard. Then we had highs of -30c with wind chills much colder. So we put all the other decorations away again. None of our neighbours has any decorations up either ...

Re: Reason to carry-on your xpap
At least in our cars, we are fairly certain the pilot or driver isn't operating under the influence of anything but us, and probably isn't wanting to end everyone in the vehicle, to die with them. At least we have the option of putting down our phones and trying to dodge a fool in our lane. Jim It ...

Re: Reason to carry-on your xpap
Airline seats are too high for short-legged frogs. If my feet are not supported, I am in intense pain within a few minutes. I can accept my chances on the highway in exchange for being comfortable. I also have lots more money to spend at my destination. I put my backpack under the seat during take ...

Re: Reason to carry-on your xpap
If you can afford airfare, maybe you deserve better. For your extra bucks, you get 16.5" wide seats, and so little legroom that there is an EPIDEMIC of dangerous/deadly thromboses among air passengers. No thank you; I think I'll drive--or stay home. There is more room available but you have to pay ...

Re: Reason to carry-on your xpap
The FAA forbids airlines from separating you from any medical equipment and trying to count it towards baggage allowance. International flights are less certain but if you speak up you should be OK. The final say will always be the flight crew. If you fly small planes to obscure places there may be...

Reason to carry-on your xpap
This very effectively illustrates why you should never put your cpap machine in your luggage.

Sleep deprivation is the same no matter how you do it. The effect is the same.
Use your cpap machine every time you sleep.
