So here are the results of my sleep study. I apologize for the blurriness of the images. Re: Any one heard of exploding head syndrome?
I think this falls into the class of idiopathic parasomnias that we just have to shrug off. Mine is a sensation of falling that often startles me awake and sometimes results in flailing that wakes my bed partner. Doesn't happen too often, but enough to be annoying.

Re: New and Excited -- Seeking Pre-purchase Advice?
Thanks OboeVet and Scootergirl. I certainly don't intend to mess regularly with my settings; but I'd like to have the option. So far I've been very satisfied with my pulmonologist and DME, but things can change...

Re: New and Excited -- Seeking Pre-purchase Advice?
I thought of one other question: I've read about "patient" and "clinical" menus. If one buys through a DME, is it possible for them to restrict access to the clinical menu so that the patient cannot adjust settings? It seems like that would be unfortunate...

Re: Home sleep study vs sleep lab
My insurance company wouldn't do a full sleep study just on my PCP's say-so. They wanted me to do a home study instead. So I made an appointment with the pulmonologist to see if he could justify the study. About two minutes into taking my medical history, he tossed his pen on the desk and said "I th...

Re: New and Excited -- Seeking Pre-purchase Advice?
Called my pulmonologist this afternoon to ask about results. Not sure how to feel that when I told her who I was she went from sounding like this was the 10,000th time someone had called to ask about results to saying, "Oh, yes! Just a minute!" I guess maybe my results were memorable? Anyway, the do...

Re: New and Excited -- Seeking Pre-purchase Advice?
Called Anthem today and verified that they pay by HCPCS/CPT code and therefore make no distinction for payment purposes between machines. As long as I use an in-network DME, I have 50% coverage, no deductible, and balance billing is prohibited by their contracts with suppliers. I also spoke to the i...

Re: New and Excited -- Seeking Pre-purchase Advice?
Thanks, that's what I was looking for. I had been leaning toward the S9 Auto, partly because my father-in-law has the S9 Elite (which he got from LinCare) and really likes it. But I'm not sure that I like the way the S9 Ramp works -- in particular that you can't restart without the ramp and even mor...

Re: New and Excited -- Seeking Pre-purchase Advice?
Thanks, guys. I'm so glad I found this place before purchasing so I won't be going in blind and end up with a brick. My current plan is to choose the APAP setup I want, price it out online, find a DME that carries that line, and ask my pulmonologist to write a scrip for that specific model. I'll the...

Re: New and Excited -- Seeking Pre-purchase Advice?
Read the following as well from Janknitz - http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/ http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/what-y ... me-part-i/ Thank you for these links, they're exactly what I was looking for. From reading the forums it was obvious that not all machines are created equal and that there are re...

New and Excited -- My Solipsistic Update Thread
I just had my sleep study on Thursday and haven't got my report back yet, but I'm excited. Three hours into my study I woke up with a headache and dry mouth and feeling like crap. The tech bustled in and said I "more than made the cut" for them to try CPAP. Fitted me with a mask and I drifted off to...
