Re: Mask Help

Congrats on the successful surgery! Start here for advice from the lanky lefty on fitting a P10 properly. https://youtu.be/_J4YDKszEpA I use the P10 with large pillows, but I’ve got a pretty big honker and it just works for me. The video should hopefully give you something to work with going forward.

Re: ResMed Cellular data and app question

palerider, I love it: "Yes" Jlfinkels, those are interesting thoughts. Thanks for that. Perhaps I will try it out along with OSCAR. I note that when I get into the clinician menu, I can turn it off. Will think on it! Thanks photonic. I’ve only used clinician mode a few times to set pressure based o...

Re: ResMed Cellular data and app question

Depending on your insurance (assuming you got your machine with insurance) they may need the information sent to Resmed to show compliance with their usage requirements. It only sends limited sleep stats to the Resmed servers, so nothing to really worry about unless that sort of thing concerns you. ...

Re: Arousal apnea’s?

You will also see people refer to "sleep/wake junk" or SWJ here on the forum, that's just the informal name for the same thing, your breathing stumbling as your body switches from one type of breathing to the other, and if that goes on for long enough, the machine, not knowing any better, will flag...

Re: Arousal apnea’s?

awake breathing and sleep breathing are controlled by two different 'systems' within your body. As you transition from one to the other, and back again, you may get what are called "transition apneas". Ignore them. Thanks. I was thinking the same, just needed some assurance from those more schooled...

Arousal apnea’s?

I’ve been reading up on arousal related apnea’s but don’t think I’m quite getting it. I noticed that right before I awake I sometimes get a burst of events, but rarely during the night. I’m just trying to understand it, not fix something that likely does not need to be fixed. Any pointers to a simpl...

Re: Success in training use of nasal pillows for mouth breathers?

Q: How do I get to Carnegie Hall? A: Practice, practice, practice Same for going from a mouth breather with full-face mask to a nasal breather with pillows. I tried for months to use nasal pillows but kept opening my yap when deep asleep, which would wake me up. I followed Zonker’s advice about the ...

Re: Apap is hissing and pressure feels too low

Get someone else to look over the machines, preferably someone familiar with them. The chances of three machines having the exact same problems is vanishingly low. I've been thinking the same thing, it seems really odd. I really don't understand what is happening. I wanted to send the machines in f...

Re: Resmed accused of patent breach

I am skeptical of this for three reasons: 1. Why did NYU wait so long to bring suit? ResMed has used this technology for years (as far as I know). 2. What does NYU hope to gain? I doubt that it's just about money because NYU has an endowment fund of ~$4 billion with a B. 3. Why should I presume tha...

Re: BarryKrakowMD New Sleep Newsletter

Thanks for the update! How are you bearing the change in humidity? Google says the annual average in Savannah is 56% as compared to 36% in Albuquerque! After living in Savannah for many years 56% humidity is desert-like conditions for that area. 85% is a typical heat-of-the-day reading with mid-to-...

Re: Why are large leaks back again??!!

Thank you, everyone. This is such valuable information and a great comfort to know I'm not alone. I am happy to report that over the past two nights I have had a large leak rate of less than 1% and less leaking in general. I changed out the hose (tubing), mask frame and found a behind the head stra...

Re: Why are large leaks back again??!!

Jlfinkels, Thanks for sharing about your experiences with mask leaks. I can see how any one of those could be my problem. The thing that jumped out at me most was what you said about the cervical collar and your jaw dropping down. I use a chin strap, which kept me from mouth breathing, but it is ge...
