Why should insurance companies pay if the machines don't meet the criteria for replacement?
The cost of potential medical bills from lung cancer are way higher than a new CPAP

Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread

Just got an email from my DME Our records indicate you have a Philips device impacted by their current recall. We are issuing a bacterial filter that can be used temporarily with your device. We have attached an instruction sheet for installing the bacterial filter. The bacterial filter package can ...

This is the name of the video "Impact of the Philips PAP Recall on Patient Care and Sleep Center Operations" and the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H80vyhFb5vc
This is a really insightful video. Interesting to see how Drs are reacting to this.

Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread

Just purchased a DreamStation 2 from my DME (AdaptHealth) for $832. Extremely frustrating that I'm spending this much money, but I can't sleep without my CPAP and I don't have confidence that Philips has any strategy here.

Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread

I don't understand the rampant speculation. We don't know what Philips knew, when they knew it, or the data on which they based their decision. It will come out, likely because of lawsuits.

Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread

FYI - if you enter your machine serial number incorrectly, the website may tell you that your machine is not affected by the recall, rather than telling you that the serial number is incorrect. Double check what you enter!

Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread

I spoke with my Dr's office today. They told me they advise stopping using the DreamStation. They are sending a prescription to the DME for a DreamStation 2.

Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread

Philips noted that the foam degradation may be exacerbated by use of unapproved cleaning methods, such as ozone , and high heat and high humidity environments may also contribute to foam degradation. Patients using affected BiLevel PAP and CPAP devices are urged to discontinue use of device and wor...

Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread

Are people actually going to stop using their machines? On one hand, I have sleep apnea and I need to treat it. On the other hand... Philips KNOWS that this material is a risk. That they don't KNOW OF any instances doesn't mean it hasn't happened. These are forcing air into your lungs 6-8+ hours per...

Re: Philips Recalls Everything

The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. Philips KNOWS that this is a risk. That they don't KNOW OF any instances doesn't mean it hasn't happened. These are forcing air into your lungs 6-8+ hours per day. The material degrades. They are spending hundreds of millions of dollars recalli...

Re: Sudden increase in AHI

The AHI I would typically get would be 2.5-6.5, but I'm seeing 10-13. It's mostly OA and hypopneas. Previously, I would see maybe 1 event marked as clear airway apnea, but now I'm seeing 5-7.

Sudden increase in AHI

I've been on CPAP treatment for almost a year. I would say, as a whole, it has been an overwhelming success. However, the last month or so, I've seen a sudden increase in AHI. Looking back, there's been significant increased stress in my work and personal life. I've also had difficulty falling aslee...

Netflix Wine Country featuring DreamStation

I watched Wine Country earlier this week. Amy Poehler's character has a CPAP machine in the movie, a DreamStation and a full face mask. Did some Googling - apparently it was her own CPAP that she brought with her. https://www.npr.org/2019/05/24/726281571/amy-poehler-leads-a-girls-trip-with-some-of-t...

Re: Anyone not use the humidifier?

Live in NYC and if I run the CPAP without the humidifier, I wake up with a sore throat and really dry nose.
