Re: Elderly Father COPD and CPAP
So sorry your going through this:( I have also faced the difficult task of trying to care for an elderly father who suffers from both numerous physical and mental health issues. I doubt if there is anything that would allow you to monitor dad’s CO2 or O2 in real time outside of a a hospital setting....

Re: Newbie 74 year old frustrated
So sorry to have not responded to those who helped me out. Let me see if I can be more clear. My lungs are fine. I live at 5,000 feet. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea due to oxygen levels dropping into high 70's low 80's during sleep study. I am on a Philips bipap machine with 5 liters of oxygen, ...

How often do you replace your humidifier chamber?
The DME is always wanting me to replace my humidifier chamber (and everything else). It seems like overkill to me. Even though I’ve never seen signs of my humidifier chamber needing to be replaced I’ve replaced it 2 times since I’ve had my machine (about 4 years). Unfortunately this morning when I r...

Re: Respiratory Wave Form correction, Bilevel vs EPR advantages - OSCAR data UK user
I have asthma and my allergist had me do a PFT in office just last month. It’s an easy test that’s readily available, I would push for a PFT if it hasn’t been done recently. OK but I wouldn't get a "Screener", which is what you'd get in a physician's office. I'd get a "Complete" to get a look at th...

If you ask him to take a big inhalation on his own, he really cant, its just one short breath lasting 1 second and thats him at his limit. He cant do one long slow and steady inhalation… he had heart surgery a couple of years ago and prior to his surgery they did a pulmonary assessment to see that ...

Re: In the UK.....Is it my heart, or my sleep-- or both?
I feel your pain about dismissive doctors. I ran into the same obstacles when trying to get a sleep study and was told a healthy looking, petite, woman in her 40s couldn’t have sleep apnea. Thankfully I eventually got my sleep study (it was a one night home study) and I’m sleeping so much better wit...

Re: teenager cpap compliance, what type of help do we need??
What type of mask does your teen use? I wonder if them hearing themselves breathing in their head could be the result of a leak? Also different masks have different ways of venting out exhaled air, some masks are quieter than others. It might be worthwhile to have your teen try out some other masks,...

Re: Have you ever woken up from an obstructive apnea?
Before I started using a PAP it wasn’t uncommon to be woken up by an apnea. Since using a PAP, as an allergy sufferer I sometimes get woken up because nasal congestion/ irritation sometimes prevents me from getting enough air through my nasal mask (sounds like your nose was clear). I’ve also had a f...

Re: Reading OSCAR #2
Hello, I submitted a post back in May( https://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=186631&p=1439596#p1439596 ) asking for help reading my results, I made the necessary changes, and have since switched masks, I tried out the dreamwear FFM as an alternative to the F30i, which I did not like, and hav...

Re: CPAP Making Me Hallucinate During Daytime
I’m not a doctor, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt. They are based on anecdotal experiences, your doctors are your best sources of info. Like your sleep doctor when reading your post the thought that popped into my mind, was could sleep deprivation be a factor? My antidotal experience is tha...

Thank you, it doesn’t help that my dad also passed away so income and insurance is a nightmare/ Hope you have a counselor or someone you trust to talk to. Financial worries, chronic health issues, the passing of your father; that would make anyone depressed. Hope you feel more well rested this morn...

-Marfan’s Syndrome. Im awaiting genetic testing but my doctor suspects I may test positive and could be a lung issue. However X-rays of my lungs showed perfect lungs. The leading cause of death for Marfan’s is bad lungs or aortic valve failure…Depression, but doesn’t help I’m going through a lot. I...

Hello Dread, While I’m not the expert that many of those previously commenting are, I have had experience with navigating a complex medical system when you are a complex patient who may not fit neatly into a box so hopefully my thoughts may be of some help. Re: How to deal with extreme anxiety over a "flutter" that is intermittent or always there but occulted
I had not been able to find the cause as it was apparently not a true cardiac murmur (29 doctors and specialists in 4 countries couldn't find a reason)... I finally saw the Cardiologist today and he said my heart is normal. I thank God for this. I don't have any "arrhythmia"…I continue to have "flu...

Re: Central Apnea spike at 9,600 Elevation
Other than shortness of breath, I don't have any altitude sickness symptoms. My shortness is getting better. The first day I arrived, I walked a hill 15 minutes up and down to develop a benchmark for breaching… The iwatch says my o2 has trended down 5 points over the last week and the resting heart...
