Re: Distilled water

How do you store distilled water? Once you open it, does it need to go into the fridge? If I buy a big jug of distilled water, leave it on the shelf, and use it over a month or so, would it become stale or contaminated in any way? I'm thinking bacteria or mold spores from the air? Never used distil...

I still don't get the facepalm, but thanks for the much more helpful answer.

Re: New issues for an old user

Would a reset of the machine help? Sometimes the software gets glitchy over time. I don't know if your machine CAN be reset, but I thought I'd mention it. Can you test the heater in the reservoir...if it has one? An ohm test should tell you if the circuit has its integrity or is open (damaged). No,...

Re: Could Untreated Mild/Moderate Sleep Apnea Leave One Totally Dehabilitated?

The guys hi-fiving in derision over those who decide to take their PAP regimen seriously, or who seem immune to apnea, are simply kidding themselves. We don't know what their blood pressure is like, their kidney function, their optic nerves, and so on. People typically lose function slowly in those ...

Re: Nasel vs Full Mask

I know it is obvious (or, it is to me), but would you not/should you not return to the nasal mask ASAP? I understand why you felt you needed a break from it. But, unless you have chronic congestion or are still sick, I would think you should get back to what was working best. I was warned off the fu...

Re: Does this get any easier? New CPAP user

I've been a CPAP user only four days. And I'm getting less sleep than I did before picking up the machine. I've managed to have the machine on for four hours each night, but only two of those nights did I get any sleep at all when it was on, once for an hour or possibly two hours, the second time f...

Re: Poor sleep hygiene

'... and I keep pressing snooze on my mobile phone alarm for up to two hours every ten minutes..." Imagine what quality of train driving or airplane flying an engineer or pilot could claim if she were doing this. I don't think your sleep quality gets any better with this kind of 'attention'. Or, of ...

Re: Resmed Air10 quit working

Sometimes electronics need a hard reset, or a reboot. When my DVR begins to act up, I now know, having been coached by the supplier, that in addition to getting it rebooted it should be both unplugged for a full 30 seconds AND the coax cable should be removed for a full minute. Something about time ...

Re: valerian root and sleep quality

... But when I tried Valarian root, I was plagued by uncomfortable dreams. Not flat out nightmares but the sort of dream where I'm stuck doing something I do not like...and have to do it over and over all night long. I did not feel rested in the morning. So my short experiment with Valarian was a n...

Re: Nocturia and drug treatment

Your kidney function is controlled by a hormone called ADH, or Anti-Diuretic Hormone. When younger, we produce more ADH while we sleep so that we don't have to void during the night. As life goes on, our endocrine function declines and, among other things, our pituitary glands don't secrete enough A...

Re: Please help cpap friends

I may be wrong, but I think the whole problem with SA's is that you become chronically/dangerously hypoxic as the night wears on. If you have sleep apneas, and several strung together over an hour or longer, especially spaced only a minute or so apart, you are bound to have sat levels well below 90%...

Re: Is this a positive sleep study?

Very unfortunately, it does look as if something more helpful could have been done for you much earlier. At that tender age you were already sleeping as an 'average' sleeper, but for those of us who have already raised our kids and none of them are left at home. You say you are now quite a bit heavi...

Re: CPAP rhinitis?

I have suffered from exercise induced rhinitis, and it's no fun. Usually it is just that your nasal tissues, mucosa, are getting too dry, often simply due to insufficient ambient humidity, or even hydration...or medication. I can't add anything more useful than what has already been made very plain,...

Re: Really concerned with cleaning

I have a cleaning question that’s bugging me so I hope you guys can help me out. Regarding cleaning the mask, I’m worried that the often recommended cleaning solutions of water+baby shampoo and/or vinegar aren’t sufficient. Baby shampoo isn’t anti-bacterial and whilst vinegar has some anti-bacteria...
