Re: Invented an apnea tongue displacement device. It works for me.

Can you explain what you mean by this? Are you looking to develop a product and get a patent? Oh no. By proof of concept I just mean that mack's ear plugs are not a workable solution, but could let me mess around with some different shapes in my mouth. I am just trying to make something that will w...

I imagine you could put one or maybe two under your tongue to see if it does the job you want done.
Not big enough. Not sure it will adhere to the belly of the tongue either.

i think you're trying to re-invent the wheel.
They are not thick or wide enough. Not sure if they stick under the tongue either.

Invented an apnea tongue displacement device. It works for me.

I've been off BPAP for months now. The Aveo plus some other things made it possible. But on nights when I am nauseous, the aveo makes me gag. One such night, to fight nausea, I took it off and put a peppermint hard candy under my tongue and slept with it there. Surprisingly, I breathed better than w...

Re: Exercise for upper esophageal sphincter to prevent aerophagia?

Steven Y. Park (ENT in NYC) used to speak of making sure the stomach was empty before sleep in order to prevent aerophagia. Thanks. That makes sense for preventing that reflex. Though ancedotally, I do the exact opposite. I feel by going to sleep on a full stomach, the food blocks the air from goin...

Re: Exercise for upper esophageal sphincter to prevent aerophagia?

Isn't aerophagia usually associates with LES instead of UES? That's part of my question as well. Intuitively, I would think both sphincters are important, but that the UES is more important. If air gets past the UES, but not the LES, where does it go? Maybe it just stays there until you swallow it ...

Strapping one of these bad boys around your neck can increase UES pressure. But that's not exactly a solution.

Re: Exercise for upper esophageal sphincter to prevent aerophagia?

"By lifting and holding the neck from a supine position for 60 seconds at a time, you create enough tension in the muscle associated with the upper esophageal sphincter that it can strengthen the valve."--https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/i-wonder-if-there-are-certain-exercises-that-might-s...

Exercise for upper esophageal sphincter to prevent aerophagia?

As I previously posted, I am off BPAP. A combination of things including the Aveo TSD and tongue exercises helped me achieve this. But, I still experience aerophagia, without swallowing. It's a passive thing. I do not have reflux problems that I know of. I will see a GI specialist starting in a mont...

Aveo TSD comments and questions

For almost 3 weeks I have been sleeping without my BPAP. Sleep quality is a little worse, but I am trying to make this work, especially to avoid aerophagia. I've been sleeping with the Aveo TSD. I tried it in the past and it failed. The differences now are: 1. I have been more diligent and skillful ...

Re: Novel idea for a IPAP/"passive" EPAP mode.

Nice dodge. Go write to the journal editor why he should retract the study because clearly you know EPAP can't possibly benefit. Write any of these researchers for that matter and tell them they are idiots. See how smart they think you are. I get it about the inspiration causing collapse, but there ...

Re: Novel idea for a IPAP/"passive" EPAP mode.

What good manners you folks have. Well then I'd love to hear how you all explain away positive meta-analysis that shows EPAP does probably work: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4699057/ The throat does not instantaneously collapse after exhalation with EPAP. That is a wrong assumption. ...

There is EPAP. Are you gonna say Provent categorically doesn't work too?

Novel idea for a IPAP/"passive" EPAP mode.

I have a concept for an apnea therapy. It goes like this: 1. On the inhale, you have some IPAP pressure, as usual. 2. On the exhale, a valve blocks off the IPAP pressure. The exhaled air then exits into the ambient room through an exhalation vent. But the vent itself has a variable dial that lets yo...
