Re: C-pap and dementia
CPAP therapy is only effective if it's used! If somebody doesn't bother (or doesn't remember) to put it back on, it's not going to work. If this patient can get an Inspire implant, at least "forgetfulness" won't be a barrier to therapy. The downside is that you might be prolonging the life of an adv...

Re: Mysterious banning for spam has hit again...
I realize that if you don't ban spam, the blog will become useless. However, any method of flagging users (manual or automatic) is prone to error and needs to have a means to correct the errors.

It still syncs to DME, and the data will still appear, albeit a day or two behind.

I soak the piece that comes into direct contact with my face in vinegar for several hours. That seems to cut down on the allergic properties of the those pieces, and doesn't' seem to shorten it's useful life.
I never washed the other parts, but you should if you're concerned.

Re: Is this weird or am I overreacting?
I'm not aware of anybody ever being flagged for non-compliance for changing the settings. In some cases I have heard of them tuned it back remotely; but you'll know if that happens. Do you have your original prescription? I would start by setting the machine to that pressure, at least as a starting ...

Re: Will I lose my progress if I temporarily stop CPAP?
Why do you have to go off for work? Guess it depends what you do - but most people will pack up their machine and continue using it. It’s life preserving equipment, would not recommend stopping it or anything. And once you’ve felt improvement, you will almost certainly be miserable without it. Unfo...

A significant weight loss (or gain) could mean that your pressure setting needs to be reëvaluated.

While it's best to use distilled water, you can use any potable water except carbonated, colored, or flavored. You'll likely get a residue, but that can be cleaned with vinegar.

. . . If death from apnea is extremely rare, ... ? . . . If you mean acute death from an Apnic episode, this is extremely rare (but not unknown). However, Sleep Apnea can cause cardio-vascular issues, diabetes, and a host of other health issues that can impact your longevity and/or quality of life....

Re: How often do you actually replace your CPAP mask/headgear?
I replace things when they (1) show stretch marks, tears, discoloration, inelasticity, failure of velcro to hold, etc., (2) when there is discoloration or any hint of odor, or (3) when there is leaking or the quality of the seal is compromised.

Re: One week new to cpap
Yes, check the tightness of your mask. Too tight is just as bad as too loose.
Epsecially check the relative tightness of the top and bottom, and check that left and right are equal.
Most masks inflate like a ballon in order to create a seal. Too tight can prevent that from working correctly.

Re: Is Hazardous Foam Used in Philips M-Series?
Philips M Series was discontinued August, 2010.
Medicare and most private insurance will pay for a new one after five years.
I suggest you get a new one and not another Philips. You probably couldn't get a Philips in the US if you want to, as they no longer sell here.

Some patients love the ramp. I hate it!
However, it it helps you; by all means.
If you're not getting any benefit, I suggest turning it off.

Re: Does actual benefit matter in Medicare CPAP compliance?
Medicare for me has always wanted only to know if I use CPAP therapy to continue paying for machines and supplies. Nothing is ever discussed about how I feel from therapy, my AHIs, reports...nothing. It is only whether or not I comply with using CPAP, not how well therapy is going. They (medicare a...
