Re: AHI and what it means

I always use my cpap. I upoed the pressure to 11-14 and the ahi dropped to 1.5 so I upped 11.5-14 and ahi went to 6.5 I may have had a mouth leak as my mouth was very dry. Going to stick with 11-14 for a few days and see what happens. 11 to 11.5 is not much of a change. It is possible you just had ...

Does your machine report RERA's, and if so, let us know if relevant to your reports.

Re: AHI and what it means

It is elementary that desats and AHI are not mutually exclusive, and further elementary that no titration is sufficient if desats go below 90%. Period. Then the tech wants to also get RDI <5 for a so-called 'optimal' titration. Even a 'good' or 'adequate' titration with indeed higher RDI's require t...

Re: Forum Administrators- Do your JOB,

I don't think this forum will change. It is unfortunate that it sinks many times to the 'lowest common denominator'. Cardsfan - one needs to separate the wheat from the chaff here. I see so many posts that are insane I merely ignore them or go to another thread. When this forum insanity rises to or ...

Re: How to interpret your sleep study-great for newbies!

I deserve an apology. But I doubt it forthcoming. I've decided to limit my participation on this forum greatly. I'm fed up with all the 'creeps' who crawl around here. No longer need this place, just thought that I'd try to make a positive contribution now that my own therapy has been optimized. Wil...

Re: How long till you feel better (less sleepy, more energetic)?

Lookit, the purpose of my posts is not to espouse 4 hours a night. It's to espouse a minimum of 4 hours a night. It's to emphasize there was a basis for the Medicare minimum, and that minimum has apparently been proven to be therapeutic. So, let it be settled, that the 4 hours a night IS NOT ONLY ba...

Re: How long till you feel better (less sleepy, more energetic)?

You start over in the sense that if you miss a night you are much more likely to feel considerably worse. But it is not a cure, though I agree in the long-term effects of making one healthier as you have stated. Do read that study, you might find it of interest! http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/artic...

Re: How long till you feel better (less sleepy, more energetic)?

... but I've also found that with the 4 hour Compliance minimum a night on CPAP, and 2-3 hours without it (such as ripping off mask in sleep) The compliance values are strictly an insurance base nothing more. If your are unable to reach that level, insurance won't pay. That is ALL that is for. If a...

Re: How long till you feel better (less sleepy, more energetic)?

For me, the daytime sleepiness was the first to subside (within a few weeks). From then on, it was gradual and took months. I had sub 1.0 AHI numbers in the first week. But it depends on how long one has had OSA, how old the person is and how much damage it's done to the person's body (including ot...

Re: Sleeping Supplements

Benadryl, Ambien, hydroxyzine, diazepam, lorazepam (benzos and Ambien in low doses). I may try melatonin. I feel best the next day without any sleep aids, but usually take something in order to help sleep through the night. Hydroxyzine is safer and less habit-forming than the benzos or Z drugs like ...

Re: This is driving me nuts

Ok so I was able to check the results of the thyroid test they had me do yesterday online (oh the times we live in... ) and it looks like there is nothing wrong with it, so I will be getting a call Monday or Tuesday about having another sleep study. I know should ask my doctor about ambien in case ...

Re: What To Do? Self Titrating

Great, Pugsy, and thanks! I've read your post, above, and will review the chart posted, and will follow-up if I have any further questions. So, I learned something. Inter alia, Respiration Rate will not show cessation of Respiration, it will likely show up on Flow Rate if at all, or always? Does the...
