Re: Distinguish between Cheyne-stokes and Periodic Breathing

When you say cycle time I assume that you mean the time interval between peak of wax to the next peak of wax. Is that what you mean? Yes. However, point of order: If the respiratory events were all apneas, then cycle time would be from the beginning of one apnea until the onset of the next. Since t...

probably ballistocardiographic artifact causing what looks like a marked increase in respiration rate at time. Re: Distinguish between Cheyne-stokes and Periodic Breathing

I think this is somewhat different from what Morbius was saying. I don't have the AASM guidelines to hand, so I'd be interested if Morbius could confirm if they are the same or different. Sure, but if I'd be looking more at 60+ second cycles. and ResMed says "The waxing periods (hyperpneas, typical...

Re: Distinguish between Cheyne-stokes and Periodic Breathing

...based on Resmed's classification. OK but ResMed's classification is correct. What needs to happen is you have to ask your guy if ~40 second cycles are significant in your case, not that it's colored green. This requires the mandatory "clinical correlation ". ResMed just stuck that in there to ma...

Re: Distinguish between Cheyne-stokes and Periodic Breathing

In the wax/wane cycle beginning at 03:15:27 waning seems to begin 03:15:36 and subsequently drifts off to a apnea that is labeled as a CA. (that I referred to as "terminating" that cycle) In order to be labled as a true CSR, must the apnea be a central? Are you asking what ResMed thinks or what I t...

My question is about the labeling of the pattern, CSR versus PB. If the wax/wane cycle must terminate in a Central ?
Your question is confusing. Wax/wane cycles don't need to terminate at all.

Re: Distinguish between Cheyne-stokes and Periodic Breathing

When you say cycle time I assume that you mean the time interval between peak of wax to the next peak of wax. Is that what you mean? Yes. What would the cycle time be for a classic CSR? >40 seconds, typically 45-90 seconds. I think that sample just misses. Any references for that criteria? AASM Sco...

If I understand you correctly, this would be a fair exemplar of CSR?
Doubt it. Cycle is too short.
On the other hand if the CAs were identified as OAs, then it would NOT be CSR, but Periodic Breathing.
No. If they're OAs, then it's OA.

Re: Can you measure the actual fraction of inspired oxygen delivered when connecting O2 to your CPAP/Bi-level?

Or you can just get yourself an inexpensive O2 meter and measure it. ('s what I did). Back at the shop, that's what they (I am not saying "we", as "I" was the one that sent "them" out to work) did. Oxygen analyzer sensor at the mask, just before exhalation port, measured @ steady state (obviously c...

Re: Do I actually need cpap?

I assume you're asking because you have researched and found the relationship of hypothyroidism and sleep apnea. Right, i found several articles which indicates hypothyroidism can lead to osa. Have you started treatment for the hypothyroidism yet? Assuming it's levothyroxine of some sort, you might...
