Re: Hypopneas
I can get myself into a relaxed state where my breathing gets shallow and I can reproduce what is happening. There is no way while awake to exactly reproduce sleep breathing, since the drive mechanism and some muscle function changes. And REM breathing is truly unique. "The diaphragm and accessory ...

Re: Hypopneas
So saw my pulmonologist today. He said he was surprised I hadn't experimented with settings. He knows I was an engineer. Also I had made minor changes in the past which he was aware of and was ok with. The system was set exactly as the old one when I got it. Phillips seems to be much more cautious o...

Re: Hypopneas
The longest period of REM tends to happen toward the end of sleep. REM, for many, can be when effectively optimized PAP is needed most. Hypopneas can kick you out of REM. So treatment machines generally need to be titrated to prevent airway narrowing in supine REM, even when patients swear they are...

Hypopneas
Hi All, I can post some charts, but just interested to gather information before seeing my pulmonologist Tuesday. I have a new (new due to recall) Dreamstation DS1. My problem is being retired I tend to go to bed late. My AHI is great until about 5AM or a little later. From that point on, I throw a ...

Re: Exhale pressure versus Hypopneas
Thanks Palerider and Pugsy for the replies. Fortunately that was just a single night and I had a ton of hypopneas that were just over the 10 second threshold. I had been experiencing some nasal stuffiness. But I am a shallow breather and maybe that can also be seen as a hypopnea sometimes. I also pe...

Exhale pressure versus Hypopneas
I'm probably worried about nothing but here goes. My AHI typically runs from .5 to 2.0. Last night it was 11.9 and naturally I feel wasted today. Not sick and not stuffy nose. I have a DS1 ASV cause I have mixed apneas. Last night I had 2 obstructive apneas and 66 Hypopneas. My biggest issue is usua...

Re: Phillips / Philips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
The Dreamstation 2 is only CPAP isn't it? So people with DS1s on CPAP will probably get a DS2. And those of us with a DS1 BiPAP or ASV system will probably get either a repaired or refurbished DS1?
Is my understanding right? Thanks.

Re: Large number of hypopneas in the early morning
Let me know if anything changes with adding a small minimum PS baseline. Merry Christmas Here is a shot from last night. There are still some hypopneas. But not a huge cluster. Sunday night was the same, but too short due to operator error. So I boosted PSmin from 0 to 1. Certainly not much of a ch...

Re: Large number of hypopneas in the early morning
I am going to take Pugsy's advice and add a bit of min PS and see how it goes. Have a nice Christmas.

Re: Large number of hypopneas in the early morning
I guess what is puzzling me is that the OP's charts show all signs of OSA, and nothing that supports Central. That is why I thought is would be useful to review the sleep study. I don't think it Is reasonable to conclude that the OP's treatment is misidentifying all events, or that the treatment is...

Re: Large number of hypopneas in the early morning
He may be thinking about hyponeas usually being obstructive but you are correct...they can be both and they can sometimes confuse the Respironics ASV machines in terms of what to call things. I have seen the Respironics machine call truckloads of centrals with the OA and hyponea name...and it was r...
