Re: Sleep Lab in a Box
I agree that something needs to be done so that the 95% or so of the people with untreated sleep apnea start getting treatment. I did not get into the details of the first post yet and I cannot read the second post because of the color but I think it is good to look at new ideas. Sleep apnea is not ...

Re: Stupid or sadistic devices to stop mouth breathing
Question: On the top pic, where do the two lower straps (wires?) go to??? The lower straps are just to tighten up the contraption. Wonder why they call it "Consuming Model"? http://i1326.photobucket.com/albums/u651/VikingGnome/lowerstraps.jpg I do not think it would work for me. I would want anothe...

Hello
If you are swallowing air I assume you are not wearing a full face mask and are either breathing thru or leaking from your mouth. In my experience you need to completely eliminate mouth breathing so cpap will work then you can figure out what pressure you need and what mask will work.

Re: Chipmunk cheeks and mouth leak, begone!!
Hello
I am glad that it works for you. I am not sure it would work for me because it looks like it pushes the lower chin back which also pushes the back of the tongue back in your airway. I need to keep my jaw forward if I can because I think that is where I think my obstruction mainly is.

Re: Mouth breather with a swift fx nasal mask
Hello Cpap does not work when you breath thru your mouth. You lose your pressure, have large pressure swings and your airway pressure goes negative. Cpap only works when the airway pressure stays positive. (above atmospheric pressure.) You need to eliminate mouth breathing or leaking or use a full f...

Re: Using a mouth guard eliminated jaw pain caused by chinstrap
Hello I used a snorban dental device in my mouth along with a chin strap for five years or so. It cost about $30.00 on the snorban.com website. They used to advertize that they helped sleep apnea but the last time I checked they just mentioned snoring. It usually did a good job of keeping my mouth s...

Re: jaw drops and many leaks
I have used a snorban dental device to help keep my mouth closed and my jaw in a forward position. The last time I bought one it was about $30 at http://www.snorban.com. If your jaw falls back it tends to close your airway which makes apnea worse. They even perform an operation called a glossical ??...

Re: new CPAP user, issue with sudden air in mouth waking up
Hello You have probably figured it out by now but CPAP therapy does not work if you breath in or out of your mouth while using a nasal cpap. Dry mouth is a clue that you are breathing thru your mouth. CPAP stands for continuous positive airway pressure. Atmospheric pressure is considered Zero pressu...

Re: mouth leaks during REM are OK?
If it were me I would eliminate all the mouth leaks or mouth breathing with a nasal mask. You could not breath thru your mouth unless your airway pressure was negative (below atmospheric). That means your cpap is not working because it works by maintaining a positive airway pressure. So when you ope...

Re: Anybody else noticed this on the modern machines?
Mickey One reason could be that the pressure is measured at the machine and you need the pressure at your mask. There is a pressure loss in the tubing between the machine and the mask and I did not check out your machine but they sometimes compensate for this loss by adding pressure at the machine. ...

Re: Dry mouth and snoring while using CPAP
Hello CPAP does not work when you breath or snore thru your mouth so you need to solve it to get good treatment. I use a nasal mask with a chin strap and tape my mouth every night. There may be other ways that will work for you but you need to solve it. A full face mask eliminates mouth breathing bu...

Kelly CPAP is not working when you breath through your mouth so you need to eliminate it first. Some methods involve taping your mouth, chin strap, or using a full face mask. Software is good if you have access to it. Genes Hey there, my name is Kelly and I am new here, too. Last night was my first ...
