Re: Is brain damage due to sleep apnea reversible?

No, you don't look like a fool , but It would be great if you would allow yourself to take a mild med that will help you stop living in fear ! Lots of folks on this list have talked about how their fuzzy brains recovered once they were using a pap machine. Those personal experiences really do matte...

Re: Is brain damage due to sleep apnea reversible?

Have you talked to your doctor about your extreme anxiety? The doctor may be able to prescribe something to help you worry less about this as well as other issues. Have you had a sleep study yet? Are you using a pap machine? Don't let your anxiety stop you from getting the help that you need. :) My...

Re: Is brain damage due to sleep apnea reversible?

I meant, before you started the treatment, you had sleep apnea for how long do you think? You are full of doubt. Doubt will do you no good. Quit researching. Free yourself of doubt. Fill yourself with hope. Hope. Listen to ozij. Work on establishing a good CPAP therapy. Develop good sleep hygiene. ...

Re: Is brain damage due to sleep apnea reversible?

I began sleep treatment years ago, if not mistaken 9-10 yrs ago, took approx 2 years to be symptom free. I was practically brain dead, shared with sleep clinic, felt as if I was 75% coma state. Thanks to cpap/bipap technology, I fully recovered. There was a mistranslation on my part I think. I mean...

Re: Is brain damage due to sleep apnea reversible?

Just keep on your therapy, "First Do No More Damage". Of course. That said, I am worried about the aftermath, my brain, my cognitive abilities have always been my greatest (and only, I must admit) asset. Same with sleep apnea, I stopped breathing 33 times per hour and 40 during REM. I felt like dea...

Re: Is brain damage due to sleep apnea reversible?

Within a few months of starting CPAP (Resmed), my boss commented that my concentration and memory had improved considerably. I also observed that my temper had improved--my family noticed that. In others, chronic oxygen deprivation has often been misdiagnosed as. Alzheimer's. I have more problems w...

Is brain damage due to sleep apnea reversible?

Hi. Is brain damage due to sleep apnea reversible? The only study I could read about it (and which is repeated everywhere) is this one: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4153061/ But knowing that this study was supported by Respironics, I have a doubt about its reliability I prefer to be ...

Re: Can sleep apnea manifest itself mainly via cognitive symptoms and without fatigue ?

It all started around October 2020. At the time I had been on 50mg daily of Sertraline (an SSRI) for about ten months to treat OCD. I felt like I had lost 50 IQ points, just like that, for no reason, I felt dumber than a few months before. I told my psychiatrist about it and he said it was probably...

Re: Can sleep apnea manifest itself mainly via cognitive symptoms and without fatigue ?

And Larissa is taking that position as well. I haven't seen anyone named Larissa here, but on another forum, someone named "LarissaH" thinks this is all due to antidepressants. I don't see why she thinks this (I mean, she hasn't really made any argument except "if you've done your research"). Also,...

I have an appointment with a doctor before I do a sleep study around the fifteenth of May.
Hoping to hear the results of the sleep study!

I think I am going to go with the "smoking gun" theory.
What is the ""smoking gun"theory"?

Re: Can sleep apnea manifest itself mainly via cognitive symptoms and without fatigue ?

Firstly, I would like to thank you all for taking the time to respond to me. I'm sorry it took me so long to reply, but I had a little trouble with my Internet connection. Most certainly possible. My biggest symptoms were feeling stupid, irritable, and gloomy—not feeling a need to sleep during the d...

Can sleep apnea manifest itself mainly via cognitive symptoms and without fatigue ?

Hi everyone. Can sleep apnea manifest itself mainly via cognitive symptoms (poorer memory, inability to reason, poor concentration...) and without fatigue ? I am tired but it is quite recent whereas my cognitive problems have been going on for more than a year and a half now. Below is the complete s...
