Re: FACE is SWELLING

I have found that modern masks often do best when they sit loosely upon the face so that the pressurized air then inflates the seal evenly against the skin. On the other hand, overtightening a mask can be counterproductive and can cause more leaks than it prevents. It can be counter-intuitive that l...

Re: MAD oral appliance effective alternative to CPAP?

When I was first diagnosed with severe OSA, a dentist friend of mine quickly made me a MAD to use until I could get PAP treatment going. It was a life-saver at the time. I continued to use the MAD during and in conjunction with PAP therapy for a year or two, which helped train me to keep my mouth cl...

Re: Wash Before First Use???

Manufacturing residue can be a thing. But I don't rinse a room before I breathe the air in it, and medical equipment that is in a sealed package and that is to be used externally for breathing through it would only be rinsed off by me if there were some instructions on the packaging that the lawyers...

I generally only beat up people who agree with me out of fear.

I guess someone should let the AASM know that it's now 22% of studies, then.

Re: Confused about the goal of PAP therapy

There is more to good sleep than good sleep-breathing alone. But that does not mean good sleep-breathing should be ignored or its importance discounted. The goal of PAP therapy is to experience all the benefits of improved sleep that comes as a result of better sleep-breathing, which can be measured...

Re: Waking Up to Pee once a night

All research is incomplete. All medicine involves compromise. Choices differ. Understandably so. Especially when it comes to sleep and questions of quantity versus quality. But knowledge beyond the anecdotal is power. Or not. It certainly seems to help some with chronic pain, with PTSD, or with RLS:...

Re: Waking Up to Pee once a night

I believe that statement may be about 21% of the studies looked at, not necessarily 21% of the people. But either way, point taken. People gotta do what people gotta do. No doubt. Nevertheless, the things people may do that counterintuitively they may be unaware can further hurt their sleep quality ...
