Well at least we can hope the "when will the S10 be out" threads will stop now.

I briefly looked at the "For Her" Autoset and noticed that the algorithm can be changed to the standard algorithm but didn't see in the regular non for Her model that the algorithm offered a change to the "for Her algorithm".
Did I miss it? Are they assuming that guys never have flow limitation problems like the gals do??? Is this their attempt to maybe address UARS type of issues??

From the For Her product page
"One of the most innovative features of the AirSense™ 10 AutoSet for Her is the algorithm developed for women and the manner in which OSA affects them. A standard algorithm responds after 3 flow limited breaths and will move up by as much as 3 cmwp. The For Her algorithm responds after just 1 flow limited breath and will move up by as much as 2.5 cmwp. If needed the algorithm setting can be changed to the standard version. "

This part of the new S10 is the only thing that really interests me. It's a change in function and while I don't know just how much of an impact this new algorithm might actually work out to be...it's a change. The rest of the changes are fluff IMHO unless the entire algorithm got an overhaul.

As a female who protests against what I feel are sexist practices in medicine, particularly assuming that just fat males can have sleep apnea, I have to be consistent and protest what Resmed has done regarding just assuming that only females have UARS issues. Now that I got that out of the way, I agree with you that this is the only feature of the machine that interests me. It will be interesting to see how popular a sales item it becomes.

From my limited reading, my initial reactions…

The Good:
  • They've added the ability to detect CSR and periodic breathing.
  • It has an SD card.
  • They don't seem to have an equivalent model to the Escape Auto.
The Bad:
  • Compliance modem is built in. At least patient can put the thing in Airplane mode...
  • They seem to be making web-based compliance software the centerpiece of the new machine. I wonder if ResScan will even be compatible.
Not sure:
  • Built-in humidifier. I wonder what the effect on overall cost will be.

That would mean a software report change. Wonder if that is one of the reasons the recent 4.5 ResScan was released. I couldn't find any real release notes though.

I doubt it will show CSR or PB on the LCD screen....I do wonder how much data goes through the modem as in how detailed it might be.

The AutoSet has two modes, AutoSet and Cpap. The AutoSet for her has 3 modes, AutoSet, AutoSet for her, and Cpap. If I was Buying one I'd buy the AutoSet for her so I could get all 3 modes. They could of made just one machine and you pick your mode of use. That's what it shows in the clinical manual.

Why would anyone buy the S10 Autoset when it's got less features than the S10 Autoset for Her for the same price?

But then the ladies wouldn't feel so special. "Like OMG they did something special for just me"... barf.

Anyway...now we get to tell the big hunk guys to get the "for Her" model just in case they might need that other algorithm. The guys are going to love that. At least it isn't that ugly pink...but it does have flowers on it.

Looks like the VPAPs will be released a little later. Wonder if they also did a "for Her" VPAP? I doubt it.

Not currently in the market for another APAP.

But, if I were, the "For Her" might help me with my ugly Flow Limitation graph - even though my AHI is always very low.

Does that mean I would have to go in drag to the DME to purchase a For Her model?

The ClimatelineAir heated hose has a right angle built right in!
--right next to the machine, so the hose goes STRAIGHT UP
--Will that be a problem for those who do NOT use a hose hanger?

Clearly they should charge MORE for the one with fewer features... higher price is a selling point.

if you read through the clinical manual, there are three or four things in the 'for her' that are only in the frilly version... at least it's not pink anymore... they moved beyond that stereotype

the expanded data retention on the sd card and software upgradability are intriguing to me.
