Can't catch my breath in my new FitLife Total face mask

Post by islandboy5150 » Sun Aug 17, 2014 8:15 pm

I keep waking up at all hours trying to catch my breath in my new mask. Checked my sleepyhead, only thing showing that I can tell are some leaks, but not real bad ones. I've even bumped up my pressure some. Kind of a scary feeling to wake up not able to catch my breath. This is a new thing I'm having trouble figuring out. Everything setup wise is all the same for years except for the mask. Went from a Q to a FitLife total face. Any thoughts?

If everything was fine for years with the Quattro...why make a change?

What pressure are you using?
Do you use the ramp feature? If so at what for how long and do you have this problem catching your breath only in the middle of the middle of the night or when you first start the night.

I have that happen occasionally, I found it is easier to just take a sleeping pill and don't worry about it, you will wake up in the morning and everything will be better.

I'll be interested in your answers to Pugsy' questions. I'd suggest you bump up the EPR. EPR will drop the mask pressure upon exhale. I'm thinking that dropping the pressure will make it easier to inhale.

Also, make sure the "type pf mask" on the LCD screen is for full face.

Look at the anti-asphyxia valve, and confirm that it is not misaligned due to a cough or sneeze.
Check the hose for kinks or internal obstructions.

No ramp, 14.6cm, exhalation valve clear, epr set at 3, mask set at full face. Went to total face because I couldn't get my nose bridge to heal up. The Q was destroying my nose and wouldn't let it heal. May try straight CPAP at my prescribed pressure and see what happens.

I sleep on an adjustable bed with my legs and head elevated due to failed back surgery. Always have to sleep on my back now because of it.

Went back to the Q last night, had an ahi of 5. Never been over 2.8 before.
