F&p smart card. Compliance?

Post by Larry C » Wed Jul 30, 2014 2:35 pm

Just completed first month of treatment with mixed emotions.
Fisher & Paykel icon has USB port for "smart card"
This smart card was sent to me by mail for me to collect info on compliance so I'm told.
I'm to send back to dme and they will satisfy insurance co.
What else does this do and shouldn't I have had it from day one?
Thanks in advance

The machine likely stores all the data needed to satisfy any insurance requirements as to usage on its internal memory area and will write that data to the smart card so software can be used to see compliance usage.

Other cpap brands do the same thing with internal storage and don't require a card to be in the machine to obtain compliance usage data.
Some machine brands store a lot of data on the internal storage and some just store minimal compliance hours of use data on the machine itself.
I am unfamiliar with what data the F & P machines store above compliance usage data which I am sure is stored on the machine.

I have the F&P Icon+ Auto. The machine I have came with a card which is formatted to install a small app on my computer to remotely upload data to my DME. SleepyHead is great software, and I've used it to look at the data on the card. It has been a big help for me to see my data. The data I see is more than compliance. It includes nightly data for sleep/wake time, AHI, pressures, leaks, OSAH and flow limitation instances, and humidifier settings. I'm sure I missed something. I'm not sure why you were not given the card with the machine or why you need to send it back to get them the data, it seems odd to me but I've only been in the CPAP DME world a couple of months.

I have no idea what the machine has for internal storage without the card, I'm sorry I can't be of more help there.

On a more personal opinion note, I am determined not to have the DME, my doctor, or my insurance company take control of my data. It's my health and I have a right to full access. When I first got the machine my access was restricted to very basic menu's. I couldn't even access the alarm feature (how silly!).

Thanks Zee Cat. You didn't miss anything. I wasn't given card with machine, it was sent by mail a month later for me to insert, remove and send back. They don't want me to know what's going on. Like you said it's my health and my business
I'll have to get to the bottom of this.
They told me compliance

Without my data I would have given up on the mask I'm currently using. It didn't feel like it was working to me. Turned out it has been giving me the best numbers out of the ones I've tried along with being the most tolerable.

Is the card a little gray stick? I might try installing Sleepyhead, and after having the card in the machine, importing the data to see what saved. Just me, though

Sleep deprivation can produce strange and unpredictable results.
