Transporting distilled water or ??

Post by docjl » Wed Jul 30, 2014 12:02 pm

What do all of you do about water for the humidifier?
I have a respiranic. Can it be used with out the humidifier? I know it can be taken apart but it has been so long since I did that orientation that I can't remember why one would take it apart and how to take it apart. Is it to use without the humidifier?

If not and it must be used with water, what do all of you do when traveling? I can't see me running to a store if I (ever get) to fly to Mexico , Punta Cana or ?? to by a gallon of distilled water.

Advice?
Thanks in advance!

if it's a respironic system one, there's a slide on the outside bottom of the humidifier module, pull it with your fingers and the two halves pop apart.

you can use the unit without water (be sure to turn it to zero first) , or without the humidifier, as you like.

just push them back together when you want to use the humidifier, they latch automatically

Just make sure to get a plain old, unheated hose to use if you are traveling with your machine, and using it without the humidifier. The heated hose will not attach directly to the machine.

Certainly you can use the machine w/o water if you choose. If you want to carry distilled with you just put some in a clean smaller bottle, such as a 16oz (or larger) soda bottle.

I like to bring enough to last a min of 3 days, sometimes 2 weeks or more. 3 days gives you enough time to find some locally.

And of course, you may find that you want / need the humidifier. While distilled water is certainly recommended and it is what I use at home, when traveling, I don't worry too much about it. If it's not available, I simply use tap water, or bottled water. I just do a little extra cleaning when I get back home to remove any mineral build up from the tank.

When traveling by car, I carry distilled water.
By air, I just tough it out and buy bottled water and then scrub away when I get home.
I don't think the screeners will allow a bottle of water through the check point.

Also if your mash has an attachment make sure you transfer it from your heated tube

You might also want to try it without the humidifier before you travel--just to make sure you are going to be comfortable.
Have a nice trip.

You can have distilled in your medical bag. OR if checking a bag you can put water in there. IF I was going to Mexico I would be bringing enough water (distilled or otherwise) to drink

I would definitely do the same. I know that just turning down my humidity too far leaves me with a sore throat and sinus pain the next day. Not how I'd want to spend my vacation.

If you call ahead an ask, your hotel might be able to provide you with distilled water. Or, as others have said, just use bottled water and clean your humidifier reservoir with a vinegar solution when you get home to remove any scale.
