Re: filtered water versus distilled
At $0.88 a gallon I find it cheap insurance that I won't trash the machine. A gallon every 2 weeks isn't bad, even if it was $1.00 a gal.. If it DOES trash the machine, it would only trash the humidifier tub, which is easily replaceable for around $40. There's a very small chance it would affect th...

Re: Need help for my CPAP room
There are CPAP helmets, but they're cumbersome, and may require a special CPAP machine due to the higher leak rates.

If it makes you feel better, buy a bottle of Control III disinfectant from our host, cpap.com. READ THE DIRECTIONS!!! The full strength solution is pretty nasty, but you dilute it 1 ounce per gallon. Don't drink it or get it in your eyes, but otherwise, the diluted mix is pretty benign. Clean your t...

Re: It happened last night I didn't die!
Aspiration pneumonia is a risk if you can't get the tape off quickly enough. Could be a problem if your tape is really sticky or you're drunk, sedated, drugged, etc. As grayghost said, if anyone suffocated in their sleep from taping they're not going to post about it here. The coroner will probably ...

Re: SoClean
The SoClean is an ozone generator - it circulates ozone (which has a very distinctive smell) through the mask and hose. Please read what the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has to say about the health effects of ozone as linked below. http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=105364&p=11124...

Re: How Do You Get Used to the Loud Sound of the Blowing Air?
This does sound a lot like a leak. What CPAP machine do you have? If it's one of the good ones, you can use SleepyHead software to tell whether you're having leaks and a number of other things. Please put your equipment in your signature line. There's a link on how to do this in the Useful Links in ...

Re: Airsense 10 "Puffing"?
There are several possible reasons for this. 1) The machine tries to control the pressure at the mask, but its sensors are at the output of the blower and have to go through the humidifier, hose, and mask. I think sometimes, as you're switching between inhale and exhale, it's trying to be "smart" an...

Re: Carbon Monoxide Poisoning & CPAP
Smoke rises in a room because it's a product of fire and is heated air, as it cools it falls and the solid combustion products fall out of the mix and deposit everywhere, as a smokers home everything is covered in nicotine, the gasses mix with the air. Jim Good thing, too, or we'd suffocate when we...

Re: Carbon Monoxide Poisoning & CPAP
Atmospheric pressure is around 1000 cmH20. Max CPAP pressure is around 20 cmH2O. your casual throwing around of approximation of facts creates chaos. one atmosphere of pressure = 1033.23 cm/h2o absolute which means *nothing*. max cpap pressure from commercially available home machines is 30cm/h2o *...

Re: 0.00 AHI But I Don't Believe It
Mine is frequently 0, and I believe it. On nights it's not zero, I often have only one or two AHI causing events. However there has been some speculation that S9 machines (and some others) may get "stuck" on 0. See if it continues to be zero. If it's "stuck," unplug the power for a minute or so to r...

They can cure double chin with botox, but you still can run your train into things. Jim I hear over 50 years ago they came up with a Dead Man's Switch, look at all the money they save by not using it! They still have a dead man's switch. They work if you fall completely asleep or drop dead. Unfortu...

Re: Carbon Monoxide Poisoning & CPAP
Atmospheric pressure is around 1000 cmH20. Max CPAP pressure is around 20 cmH2O. CPAP air would only be 2% denser than room air. You don't get a lot more air or CO just from the denser pressurized air. From a simple mechanical viewpoint, you don't get much more air from the pressure on CPAP. Your lu...

Re: Carbon Monoxide Poisoning & CPAP
Just a thought towards solving the mystery of why a man using CPAP was fatally exposed, while his wife in the same bed was not. CO is heavier than air, and will settle lower in a quiet room. If his CPAP was located on the floor, that alone would explain his higher exposure and fatal dose. As paleri...

Re: UNSATISFACTORY AIR HOSES
The end of air hoses fits over my kitchen sink faucet. I use it to rinse the hoses when cleaning. I've found if I run hot water through it for long enough, the hoses get less kinky.
You can get genuine Respironics air hoses pretty cheaply online, or through eBay.
