Water in hose

Post by Youngalex » Sat Jul 26, 2014 9:29 pm

I am using a Phillips Resperonics Auto machine( hired) to see if it is better than my Resmed Autoscore S8 fixed pressure m/c It has been very good, but I was getting a fair few leaks, so yesterday I purchased a new headgear and cushion for my Quattro FX full face mask. Last night was a disaster, constantly being woken up by what seemed like water in the hose and a gurgling sound, I hadn't changed the settings on the machine, could it be that the mask was too tight on my face?

I'm only a newbie at this, but I found that if I slightly overfilled the water tank it did make its way down the hose. Is it possible you overfilled the new machine?

Rain out....condensation in the hose or mask.
Check out what I wrote about condensation and what causes it and how to limit it in this thread here... think posts number 2 and 3.
viewtopic/t94035/Pugsys-Pointers-3Deali ... -road.html

Unrelated to strap tension or how tight or loose you might have the mask.

It's amazing how just little tiny bit of water in the hose or mask can make such an awful racket but I had first hand experience with it just 3 nights ago.
It's a combination of bedroom air temp and humidity setting to be delivered that causes it.
If you can tell us the model number of your trial machine and the setting we can maybe offer some ideas to reduce the rain out.

While the ResMed S9 machine does have the ability to get water in the hose when the water chamber is over filled....the Respironics chamber is much less likely to have that happen.
If it does happen...it's immediate though. Turn on the blower and it blows water into the hose immediately and you get either the racket or a cold shower within seconds (I have done that too )

To figure out exactly which model Respironics machine you are using look on the bottom of the blower unit for a 3 digit number.

the newer PR machines exhaust from the top of the humidifier, so it's not possible for what you suggest to happen.

it's likely just condensation of the warm wet air on the colder hose. ("rainout")

Thanks for your help, that is what it was, I turned the humidifier down and it was fine, a little dry in the mouth next morning, but I can live with that. I think I will upgrade to this auto Respironics machine and a heated hose. The one thing I don't understand is the difference between the fixed Resmed (fixed at 15) and the auto Phillips which has a max of 15, average AHI of Resmed 12 average AHI of Phillips 3.5

Thanks again Rob

without looking at the detailed data, there's no way to tell where the difference is.

it's possible that 15 was too high a pressure for you, and it was causing you issues, and if the PR is running in auto, it may be giving you a lower pressure that works better for you.

Hmmm, maybe before I spend the $2000.00 perhaps I should do a trial with a lower fixed pressure.

Prices in Australia are very high, on Saturday I brought a new strap for my Quattro FX mask, that cost me $73.00 and a cushion for same was $93.00.

The cost go a new Respironics machine with heated tube $1995.00 with not heated tube $1895.00, a new Resmed with humidifier and Quattro mask will set you back about $2600.00

oh, right, you didn't put your location in your profile, else I'd not have asked

secondwindcpap.com ships worldwide, you can get an apap for about a quarter of that price.

it's just bizarre that they make 'em in oz, ship 'em here and they're cheaper.
