PAP NAP

Post by Breatharian » Sat Jul 26, 2014 6:44 pm

Hi--
I am taking PAP naps to compare to my night AHI's.
I am on a ResMed S9 VPAP Auto,, used on BiPAP mode-- I have corrected to 2. for the past year leaning back on a 20-30 degree board and with a dental device in my mouth on my back but some new nasal mask fit issues have me checking sleeping position again. My sleeping AHI is ranging from 2. to 7.0 depending on mask and fit and sleeping position

Just got up from my 4th PAP nap-- 30 mins each time, mask fit good. For some reason my AHI while completely awake and on the BIPAP is ranging from 3.5 to 4.7. I can't understand this. I have to pay to go see my sleep pulmonologist-- so thought I would ask if there is anyone that has any ideas as to what might be the cause. I want to have as much info to give him. My Pulmonary Function is excellent-- although I have a very reactive airway-- which is 1mm at the back of the throat. I have many UARS issues even though I have moderate OSA after nasal surgery-- down from severe.

Does the machine detect resistance and call it an apnea or hypopnea?
Any suggested tests to request?
(I forgot to say the first time while PAP Napping I am sitting up like in a meditation position belly breathing!)

Thanks!

Breathing patterns while awake is highly irregular compared to when you are asleep. While awake, we would often stop breathing, causing the machine to record apneas.

Also, I find that my machine records a lot of central apneas shortly (10-15 mins) before I wake up (e.g. in the middle of the night) or shortly after I try to go to sleep.

The machine cannot tell if you are asleep or awake. It detects irregular breathing patterns and reports them as OA H or CA. (Probably some CAs).
What you are trying to do with naps will not work. Just go to sleep and check your data the next AM. Are you using Sleepyhead?

Gee I did not know to look below my post-- I thought no one answered.

LSAT--
Aha-- Thanks. What I am trying to do will not work. I am trying to check sleeping position with a new homemade mask (#12) and refine quicker than waiting till I get it right over several nights. No I am not using Sleepyhead-- just looking at the AHI on my S9.
I just saw that it works with Macs-- which is what I need.
I will download it and hopefully figure it out. I was going to use the Wake Up to Sleep but the used PC I bought needs some additional things so I have not done it.
Thanks so much

And-- Sleeper Agent-- thank you. I was testing my iPod breath entrainment breathing pattern which is very regular but I guess I did not keep up breathing with it very well.
Thanks!
