slightly OT --Source for SD cards?

Post by Denial Dave » Sat Jul 26, 2014 8:18 am

My original resmed SD card died after 15 months of use. My cheap walmart card is now acting wierd and has given me the invalid card error twice in the past 2 weeks.

Its getting almost impossible to find an SD card with memory less than 8G locally for my resmed machine.

can I get some recommendations for a source for them?

thanks

Dave

I found one in an old camera I hadn't used for a couple of years.
Maybe check thrift shops for "obsolete" digital cameras, look inside, and buy what has the small SD.

Just do a search for "2GB SD card" and you'll find lots of sites.
Either 2GB or 4Gb will do.

Here is a link to Amazon for a low cost, good brand cards.
Sandisk 2 GB card $4.99 each
Kingston 2 GB card 2 for $9.74

And here is an even better deal:
4 GB SanDisk with USB card reader $12.79 for two cards

Why do you want under 8 GB? I THINK most SDHC cards will work, even up to 32 GB, even though the machine won't use the extra space. It's possible that if varies with different versions of the firmware.

How about the Dollar General or Big Lots. Both sell slightly 'behind the times' electronics at a cheap price. Just a thought...

here's a data point for you, vpap auto, SX474-0907, popped in a 32g sdhc card, the s9 said "reading ..." and wrote it's data files on it without a complaint.

Thanks. my SX474-0604 model made in 2010 handles SDHC just fine. BTW, the 3rd and 4th digits of the serial number are the year of manufacture.

right, this one's a 2313, ergo, singapore 2013 vintage.

so that gives a fairly wide range that accept 32g sdhc cards. perhaps I'll dig my 64gig outta the camera and see what it says about that, if I get curious enough

Is the 64GB an SDXC? That would be extra interesting.

I think it would have to be, the sdhc spec only covers 2-32g according to some quick googling.

Thanks for the tips on a source!!

Most of the stores appear to be carrying the microSd cards now.

for me, it just seems a waste to put a 8g or larger card into the machine...
I ordered 4 of the 4G SD cards from Amazon.

I have tried larger memory SD cards and they work in the resmed.. But after doing a date download into sleepyhead or rescan, the S9 machines time for "Reading card" until its ready seems to take a lot longer using a 16G card.

FWIW... my 3 year old laptop won't read a 64G SD card, it'll only read up to a 32G card..... the drivers won't take it even after I updated them.

you need 'exfat' drivers for 64gig.

I'm using ubuntu on my thinkpad here, and it didn't recognize the 64 gig card till I added the exfat packages. now it works fine.

what you need, of course, depends on the type and version of your OS.
