AirFit p10 wear and tear

Post by englandsf » Sat Jul 26, 2014 6:49 am

Been using a P10 for about 3 weeks - always feels like the straps are about to fail but it is so light and works so incredibly well. Pillows are unbelievably comfortable and leak resistant too.... Anyone have any experience of actual lifespans of pillows, straps and/or actual mask assembly - or is it too new?

I did buy a spare strap and have six new pillows already on insurance but have yet to actually switch.

What are others finding? When was this mask actually intro'd? I got mine mid June and it was very new at my DME.

Released mid Jan of this year and that's when I got mine...first day it went on sale at cpap.com.
Been using the same headgear and nasal pillow all that time (with exception of a couple nights with trying different size nasal pillows).
Have spares but so far haven't needed them.
I have washed the headgear by hand 3 or 4 times. I usually wash the nasal pillow once week.

So mid Jan to mid July.....same headgear and same nasal pillow.....but as usual YMMV with the equipment. I always got a long life from any of the nasal pillow masks I have ever used.

6 spare pillows and a spare head gear in 3 weeks? Sounds like your DME is going crazy! I have used pillows for a long time, and like Pugsy I get a long time out of each pillow. I have changed masks a couple of times - ordered a P10 last night, but am currently using the Aloha, but rarely need to replace the pillows. When I first started using the pillows I was replacing them fairly frequently, but I have learned since then that I can keep using them for longer. I am anxiously awaiting delivery of my new mask! It has great reviews on cpap.com. The Aloha and TapPap are great, but do leak a bit. The TapPap is hurting my teeth a bit, so I only use that for short periods (2-3 nights). Keep us posted on your progress with the P10, and I will report back on how I get on with it. We need to keep in mind that everyone is different, and your perfect 10 mask may only get a 1 or 2 from me.

My DME got six moths supply of pillows on my insurance and I bought one spare headset. Approved replacement rates seem to be one pillow per month and one mask/ headset per six months. Looks like its subject to DME contract with insurer. Mine will not cover cpap.com in network

Despite the feeling of weakness the strap is actually fine looking. I wash it weekly and the pillows daily, all in warm water with seventh gen liquid soap.

The headgear has amazing shape memory; when I wash it, it springs back nearly all the way.

I've been using mine for about two months and, while the strap seems to have loosened somewhat, I'm still getting negligible leaks. I don't think I'll have any problems getting another couple of months out of it, at least.

Hi there. I've been using the P10 for a little over 3 months now and am on my 3rd set of pillows. Wash them daily with either soap and water or mask wipes. At around 3-4 weeks in I started seeing increased leaks and finally tried a new pillow. Voila, leaks gone. Same thing about 4 weeks later, fixed with new pillows.
Don't know what I'm doing to the poor things but seems for me the life expectancy is on the low side for my pillows.

I don't use the p10...I use the Quattro and I have been using the same mask and headgear for over a year. When I (rarely) wash the headgear I do not open the velcro.

I noticed the straps spring back well when washed - I use them at 90 degrees to each other so the join is showing slight fray marks but - like everyone else - no leak problems and it's so very comfortable....

I've had mine about 3 weeks now, and haven't had any issues with it. I was using the swift fx before with medium pillows. When I called in to have them switch mask, they automatically sent me medium replacement pillows, with the new p-10. After fighting with the medium pillows for about a week, I had to switch to the large, to get it to stop leaking. I called DME day before yesterday and received new large replacement pillows today. The medium pillows with the p-10 seem to be a little smaller than the swift fx medium pillows.

Perhaps nothing. Everyone seems to have different experiences with every mask. If you're closer to leaking with a new P10, less wear would be required to increase leaks. Head size compared to the headgear, nose shape, etc. will all affect it.

I would add that I do not wash my pillows daily. I wipe them down every few days with the free mask wipes cpap.com sent me. Perhaps less washing would make a difference for you.

Did you try boiling the pillows, perhaps with a tsp. of baking soda, when they started to leak? Many people report that doing so restores much of their original life to them.

I did NOT like even one part of the AirFit P10: DME had only a fixed length strap and it was too tight and could not be loosened. Tethers excessively, leaks excessively, hurt both of my nostrils.

Did you try one strap above your ears the other right up on top of your head or even forward of the top? I have big (7 5/8) head and any other position is too tight for me. But that combo is wonderful and very stable when I'm asleep.

Have used mine for about six months now with no issues. replaced original pillows at about three months am now cleaning & alternating two sets every three days.new headgear is on the way & will use the original mask as my daytime for occasional use next to my recliner. Mask holds up extremely well for such minimal headgear !
