How do I post a Sleepyhead screen shot?

Post by birdwatcher » Fri Jul 25, 2014 9:17 am

I asked this question a few months ago and the replies were very complicated. Is there an easy way to copy a graph or graphs from Sleephead software when I post a question about my treatment?

Images have to be uploaded to some place like Photobucket or other online storage and then you provide a link to where the image is located in your post here.
So you have to take a screen shot...save it to your computer...upload the saved image to wherever you are storing it and then get the link/address to where it is located and put the link in your post. If you use an IMG link the screen shot will show up in your post.
I use Photobucket because they provide the IMG address for easy copying and pasting.

I have a link (How to Post Images of Reports) to how to do this for PhotoBucket in my signature block if you are using a Windows machine.
There is an embedded link on how to capture the image on a Mac.
There is some discussion on methods of capture including printing the screen and scanning it back in. etc.
If you just want to capture the image, then ignore the intro stuff.

Ok...I'm taking it one step at a time and stuck already. I don't have Photoshop on my laptop but I noticed Sleepyhead has an option to "take screenshot" under the View tab. I did this and have no idea where the screenshot went! I hate being to computer illiterate but can someone help me?

it's saved in your sleepyhead data directory under 'screenshots'.

OK birdwatcher, here goes.
I assume you are using a Windows computer or else these instructions are pretty much useless.
I also assume you have Microsoft Office available on this same computer.

Here we go.
1. Display what you want to capture and post from Sleepyhead.
2. On the upper right of your keyboard is a key labeled "Print Screen" Its generally placed just to the right of that long string of function keys F!, F2, ... F12.
3. Press that key once only. This asks Windows to make a screen copy to an area that holds copies of the screen.
4. Now start Microsoft Word and open a blank document.
5. Put the cursor on that document and press the following two keys together: "Control and the letter V"
The control key is labeled "CTRL" and is at the lower left corner. The V is the ordinary letter key toward the center and in the bottom row.
Surprise, the image you wanted to capture is displayed in the middle of your Word document.
There's more.
6. Now position your cursor in the middle of the image.
7. Press the right click button on your mouse. A drop-down menu will pop into place.
In the middle of that menu is the choice "Save Picture" or "Save as Picture" or something like that depending on which version of word you have.
8. Click on the save picture entry and it will ask you where to save it and what format to use.
... Where you save it is up to you but remember where it is.
... The format you want is .JPG because that's the easiest for PhotoBucket to use.
That's how to create the image that you want to capture without having image software like Photoshop.

Back to my post (link below) for directions on how to get it to PhotoBucket and then to your post on this message board together with the question you want to ask.

I hope this helps.

it's a lot easier to just hit 'f12' in sleepyhead, or, select 'take a screenshot' from the sleepyhead menu.. I know it didn't used to be like that, but is now.
