3d printed cpap mask
I am a veteran cpap user, for the last 10 years i have been using the Breeze headgear, this is an improvement to the nasal masks, but after so long time, i began looking for something more comfortable, the Breeze is big, i can't read a book or watch TV and fall asleep and when traveling it is big and difficult to package.
Then came Swift FX, it seems to be a great improvement, small, soft and simple.
I ordered one and very fast found the I can't use it for some reasons:
1 -its mail advantage is also a disadvantage: the softness, sleeping on the side presses the mask and obstruct it
2 - the angle of nose pillows are fixed and cannot adjust it exactly to your nose (in the Breeze you can rotate the and change the angle)
3 - The silicon straps are to close to your face and rubs the face (they provide soft cloth wraps but this is not enough in a hot night)
some days ago i sat with my son, that is an industrial designer and explained the problem, after a half day we came with a small mask the compiles the good of each mask,(and tailor-made to my nose ) he printed it on his 3d printed
and this is the result:

Saw this article last night

Don't think they are doing it yet though.
Unfortunately, I use a FFM.

Is just the baby blue part 3D printed? Is the 3D printed part hard plastic, or is it rubbery/flexible?

Thank you for correcting my misconception. I thought 3 D printing along with my drier which loses one sock out of a pair were plots of the evil red menace intending to enslave freedom loving people everywhere. Now I gues the evil commies think they can make us to drones who follow their orders by simply promising to pair our socks. Fight for freedom go sockless!!!!
Re: 3d printed cpap mask
How did you get the hard plastic Swift FX collar to attach to the 3D printed part? That must have taken some doing.rubenzilzer wrote:archangle : yes it is the blue part, it is hard by definition, as i said the flexible swift was problematic
Those are the Breeze pillows, I presume.
That's a very interesting Frankenmask.

Re: 3d printed cpap mask
we created a "cradle" where the collar snaps and is hole by a small steel wire.
the pillows are the breeze pillows that i have been using for the last 10 years.
my sleep therapist told me that i shouldnt change mask model after so many years, i instisted bought the swift and ended buying a new breeze, now is the first time that i am using a different mask after 10 years.
I like Frankemask

Re: 3d printed cpap mask
This is excellent.
I have commented before that the manufacture of face masks didn't account for the variation in faces. It would be like having shoes available only in S,M, L & XL.
Also, there has been some comment about using 3D printing technology.
Besides making one for yourself, is there consideration of going into manufacturing for the general CPAP using community?
I suppose you would have to have a laser scan of the face and have a file sent in.
Or perhaps you might set up a sizing system.
Again, this is great pioneering work. Another CPAP user taking action.

Re: 3d printed cpap mask
Very impressive. Could your son build some modeling software so we could "try" various existing pillows against our noses - that would be amazing. Not just sizes but types, they vary so widely.
I've found the larger pillows actually wedge my nose open like breathe right strips in reverse too.
BTW - I thought the wings on the FX looked problematic for side sleepers so I went with Nuance and P10 (latter is much better in my case) which don't leverage so easily.

Re: 3d printed cpap mask
Yes, we are thinking, but there are a lot of issues, the first is that cpap masks require prescription(here in Israel and I think that in the US too), and that means some kind of liability (fda aprooval), we have to check this more thoroughly.
I am thinking of a simple model, having 3 pictures of the nose with a web cam ,bottom side and front each one with a reference ruler has to be enough to build a 3d model.
Also everything has to be redesigned in order to not infringe others patents.
