I got a call today from the DME...

Post by Tatooed Lady » Wed Jul 23, 2014 5:11 pm

...saying that they haven't got any compliance info from my unit since, get this, July FIRST. I'm SOO happy it only took them three weeks to tell me this...since all I was asked to do was press the little button on the attached modem, it's not exactly a hassle to find time in my busy schedule...unless I'm driving at the time. Which is EXACTLY what was happening when she called. here it's supposed to automatically send my info every day, from what I was told...so much for that.

So, they never told you about the button.
You need to share this with your doctor.

Get over it. They only need your data periodically to send to the payer. They certainly aren't doing something every day with the data.

What do they do with the data? Magical things?

I just got a letter from my DME containing a brand new ResMed SD card and asking me to put it in my machine. They must've tried to download data just when I had the card out of the machine for a SleepyHead sync. I'm surprised they didn't start throwing a hissy fit when I was in Vermont and out of any cell range for ten days.

But Tatooed Lady is a long-haul trucker and needs her compliance information transmitted to her employer in order to keep her DSL. If the DME is not sending compliance information to her employer for three weeks, that is a serious issue because it could cost her her license and her livelihood. Perhaps before you jump all over people you should consider that you may not have all the information you need. Or maybe you just shouldn't jump all over people at all.

Her machine will show the hours used, and she can send sleep head reports to show compliance. Dan DME's!!

Latinist,

Excellent point - she has a CDL & can easily lose her job for not being CPAP compliant. However, her Dr. could get involved before it comes to that. Her data is on the machine & can be taken to the Dr. or company medical examiner to prove compliance via her SD card. However, if I were her I'd be livid with that DME.

SleepyHead reports are not going to satisfy the DOT. And Tatooed Lady has already explained how her company monitors compliance with data they receive from the DME. She really doesn't get to decide how she proves compliance, and she is very much reliant on her DME doing its job.

Sure, it's unlikely she'll lose her license. But if her medical certification gets yanked, she's benched. No work (or pay) for her until it gets straightened out. But that's really not the point. The point is that this is NOT, as Cereal Killer assumes, simply a matter of her DME needing compliance information to get paid -- it's a matter of her employer needing that info for her to keep driving. It is her DME's job to get that data to her employer on a regular basis and it very much their job to keep on top of it. If my DME doesn't keep track of compliance the worst that happens is that they get paid their monthly rental fee late by BC&BS; if Tattooed Lady's DME doesn't keep track of compliance, she doesn't get to work until it's straightened out.

SleepyHead reports are not going to satisfy the DOT.

I started CPAP in December of last year. The little transmitter that was on my machine could not reach a cell tower so there was no compliance information being sent to the DME.

The DME told me to bring in the SD card and he would get the info directly off of it or he would mail me a blank card and I could mail in my card.

Not wanting to mess around, I put the ResScan compliance report in a PDF file and emailed it to the DME. This message came back quickly:
The report does meet compliance requirments. I’ve went (sic) ahead and added it into your file to be forwarded to your insurance provider.
(I am thinking at the end of one year this has to be done again in order for the insurance to pay for supplies??)

I guess my point is just work things out calmly and go on with life. But then maybe your DME and doctors are not as easy to work with as mine??

Wow, I feel so loved with all the defenses. I know about the button on the modem, I pressed that, as prescribed after my first night. I was told its a one and done thing, not that I need to press it each month, three times per year or whatever. I am, in any case, not amused.
