It's interesting as that was what I have been reading recently.

The potential problem is the old correlation versus causation issue. For people who have on average 7 hours sleep, maybe they don't snore or have OSA, whereas people who sleep 9 hours might be sleeping for that amount of time because their quality of sleep is compromised by OSA or snoring or other factors. Likewise people with other disorders may find it disrupts their sleep as well.

The one thing that I think everyone will agree on is that it is the quality of sleep that matters. For example, Leonardo davinci got by for decades by having a 15minute nap every two hours - that's 1.5 hours sleep a day. Why? well because he was a bit of a freak and obviously his quality of sleep was extremely good.

It all depends on the individual. I am becoming a strong advocate of the idea that everyone should pay more heed to their quality of sleep. I for one was completely shocked to hear of how many times I was stopping breathing each night - I had no idea it was that bad until I got wired up!

I guess I must fall into that "quality of sleep" disclaimer.

Hard as I try a pretty good night for me is 6-1/2 hours, normally with only one bio break. But generally I feel pretty good throughout the day now. Before therapy started a year and a half ago I maybe got 3-4 hours tops, and that was very fragmented as evidenced by my titration AHI of 131.

But I continue to work on it and if I could get up to 7 hours average I'd be thrilled.

I sleep in cycles of 90min each. Typically in groups of 2 or more. So it is not unusual for me to sleep for 3 hours, get up for an hour or so and then sleep for 4.5 hours. If I wake up at the end of a cycle, I am awake and alert. If I wake in the middle of a cycle, very groggy tired. A total of 7.5 hours is very common for me.
