Note that you need a recording oximeter. The CMS-50D does NOT record. The CMS-50D+ DOES record. Note the "Plus" on the end.

Also note that some people with severe apnea don't ever show oxygen desaturations. They wake up enough to start breathing before the O2 drops to the levels that show up on the pulseox.

CPAP set 9-15, EPR = 3

Leak = 12-14

Pressure: Median 7.8, 95th%ile 10.4

Apnea index = 3.4, obstructive = 0.7, central = 2.6

7 hours sleep

He might have a Sleep Clinic visit in the next two weeks.
There's a reason you need to go to an expert to diagnose and treat apnea. Someone who knows what their doing could tell more by looking at the data on the SD card with the free SleepyHead program. They could also make some adjustments and tell quite a bit more without an actual in-lab sleep test. However, the medical mafia likes $leep te$t$, and a sleep test is a good thing.

However, the machine seems to think he needs CPAP.

Re: Obamacare

One of the evil things in Obamacare is that you can get the Obamacare subsidized rates if you are above the poverty line level of income, but if you make less that, you pay the full rate. i.e. if you earn $14,000 per year, you might pay $150 per month, but if you make $10,000, you pay $600. (Rates vary with age, location, etc.)

Obama wanted everyone below the poverty line to go into medicaid, but many states decided not to expand medicaid coverage, and you can't get medicaid unless your income is much lower, so there's a big gap for the unemployed, early retired, or simply low income people. Also, there are a lot of problems with the medicaid program vs. insurance.

amazon, cms50d plus

Just received this Oximeter yesterday. Just some of the salient criticisms:

1. If not using the unit for more than TWO hours, you are supposed to remove the two AAA batteries. Now that is not convenient

2. Too often it senses the finger is not in place when it is in proper place.

3. The hinge mechanism is cheap.

4. Parts of the written instructions are unclear.

5. This device is an "explosive hazard". Huh ?

I rather pay more for a better device.
